'The Invincible' Reveals Yasna’s Story, New Playable Demo Coming During Steam Next Fest - Trailer

by Rainier on June 11, 2023 @ 2:20 p.m. PDT

The Invincible is a first-person, single-player sci-fi thriller set in a retro-future timeline.

Set in a distant galaxy on the mysterious planet, Regis III, players will take on the role of scientist, Dr. Yasna, and can look forward to multiple story paths and endings in this cinematic adventure thriller. The single-player story of The Invincible will introduce gamers firsthand to the idea that there are places in the Universe that are not only unwelcoming to us as humans, but entirely forbidden.

Inspired by the work of bestselling Science Fiction writer, Stanisław Lem, who has influenced the likes of Futurama’s David X Cohen, The Sims’ Will Wright, and Hideo Kojima, author of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, The Invincible will plunge players onto a distant planet Regis III set in atompunk aesthetics. The story takes place in an alternative retro-future timeline, where digital technology has not been invented, nor has The Cold War ended. Although humanity uses analog technology, it has conquered vast amounts of planets and ventured into many other galaxies thanks to it.

Waking up as a space scientist on a hostile planet, you embark on a mysterious mission to find the missing crew of your spaceship. Survival is a matter of your correct choices, taken whilst uncovering the secrets of the planet, bigger than anyone thought.

You are a scientist onboard an interstellar scientific expedition, suddenly thrown into a life-or-death rescue mission. Landing on a planet Regis III you have to find the missing crew members using some advanced space equipment, whilst relying on your brains and instincts to survive on the planet which quickly occurs to be unwelcoming. Soon you’ll discover that Regis III holds terrifying secrets which are uncovered while you’re piecing together the fate of your crew. And as you delve deeper into the mystery, you realise that perhaps you are not alone, and that some places like this planet are better left untouched. But it’s too late to turn back.

The narrative-focused hard sci-fi adventure touches on humankind's unbridled ambition and the unshaken belief that what we find, name, and categorize becomes ours in an instant. This new trailer focuses on the game’s main character Yasna, her motivations, and her interest in science over conquest. Her natural curiosity will soon lead her to rethink humanity’s ambitions and biases on Regis III.

“Yasna isn’t terrified by the cosmos, but rather amazed by the vision of its undiscovered phenomena. Her training as an astrobiologist helps her handle stress and maintain focus when she wakes up on the unknown planet without her crew and with holes in her memories,” specifies Magdalena Kucenty, Narrative Designer at Starward Industries. “In the beginning, her professionalism and natural curiosity push her forward to look for answers and to successfully complete her mission. However, her attitude slowly changes throughout the game, as she is faced with morally difficult decisions and the realization that not everything, everywhere is for us”.

During the upcoming 11 bit studios publisher sale on Steam (June 8-19) and also during Steam's Summer Next Fest (June 19-26) you’ll be able to try two different demo versions of The Invincible.

The first demo will be the same as the one that was previously available for the public in May, and the second - a new part of the game called “Convoy”.
