Inner Ashes is focused on Henry, a forest ranger diagnosed with early Alzheimer's disease, who embarks on a journey to discover why he and his daughter Enid have been growing apart.

Inner Ashes is a narrative experience about Alzheimer's disease where players will interact with the environment to solve puzzles that will evoke the daily struggles of patients living with this disease. Players will control Henry, a middle-aged man who has been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. As the game moves on, he will unravel the memories that surround the story of the departure of his only daughter Enid.

Inner Ashes' gameplay mechanics dive into elements used to help Alzheimer’s patients to mitigate their symptoms. Solve tangram puzzles to stimulate Henry’s memory and use post-its to help him recognize objects, remember how to use them, and unlock past memories. Thanks to its unique and colorful landscapes, players will be able to wander and explore Henry's mind solving puzzles and witnessing the struggles associated with Alzheimer's.

Inner Ashes is a first-person adventure narrated through a father-daughter-touching story and dreamlike scenarios. In each scenario, players will explore  Travel through unique and dream-like scenarios based on Henry’s day-to-day life and mind.

Video games publisher SelectaPlay and Calathea Game Studio announced that Inner Ashes is participating in Steam's Summer Next Fest with a playable demo that will be available from June 19th to June 26.

The Steam Summer Next Fest demo will allow narrative-driven games fans to experience a glimpse of this first-person indie adventure that puts players in the boots of Henry, a forest guard diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. The demo is set in the first chapter of the game, introducing the story of Henry and the mysterious disappearance of his daughter, Enid. 

“We’re very excited to release Inner Ashes in the hands of the community for the first time with this demo. We believe video games can be a powerful medium to tell stories about different realities that are part of our society”, says Jose Montano, CEO at Calathea Game Studio. 

The people at Calathea Game Studio wanted to create a story with a deep emotional impact to make the players connect with people living in extreme circumstances.
