Players must vanquish punishing bosses, build grand halls, and upgrade their hero to withstand the mist and uncover the secrets of the kingdom’s downfall.

Enshrouded is set in a decaying world of magic and beauty, ruined by a pestilence unleashed from the depths of the earth. Roaming and ravaging the land are the mutated remnants of its fallen people — driven to madness and controlled by the fog. But above the mists and hidden deep in ancient temples, warriors from a forgotten age sleep, dreamless and impervious to time.

Players awaken as "Flameborn", the last hope of an ancient civilization. Guided by nothing but a latent arcane power in their veins, they must hunt, gather, and craft to unleash their power and untangle the secrets of a ruined realm of epic beauty. To unlock truth, treasure, and wisdom, the player must venture into the lush forests, unyielding deserts, deep fissures, and lost dungeons of the land.

But set against them is the Shroud, a creeping blight that absorbs and mutates all life it encounters. To push back the Shroud, the Flameborn must ascend a deep open skill tree to master powerful weapons, spells, and armor — developing their own unique playstyle to withstand warring factions of fell creatures, and conquer merciless bosses in heart-pounding combat.

To protect themselves from the fog and bring life back to the kingdom, players can shape the world's terrain and unleash their creativity to build bases and epic homes, customized to the last detail with a vast array of materials and furniture. Beyond showcasing treasure, powerful NPCs can be awakened, unlocking advanced workshops and the ability to craft unique items and mythic weapons.

Developer Keen Games debuted a new deep-dive gameplay trailer, which gives players a deeper look at the games’ building and terraforming possibilities. Utilizing the game's custom engine and voxels, players can build bases as simply or elaborately as they desire, even shaping the land surrounding them to match. This second deep-dive shows the various tools and approaches to unleash the players creative freedom for building within Enshrouded.

Base building is an important aspect not only for surviving, but thriving in the world of Enshrouded. The building tools offer a variety of options: some unique and easy to use, some familiar but elevated from those typically seen in the survival genre. Construction is as easy or elaborate as the players choose — for those who want to build their abodes more quickly, blueprints of elements like stairs, door frames, and ceilings are readily available, whereas builders who enjoy a more fine-tuned approach can also edit brick-by-brick, giving each base a personal touch. Thanks to the use of voxels, each new element blends seamlessly into the overall structure for an immersive, cohesive experience within the Embervale, no matter what players decide to build.

Once the general structure is constructed, players can decorate their masterpieces with over 100 props including trophies from slain bosses as decor to show off progress. The different categories of furniture used for decoration are not only cosmetic, but also give players a stronger, rested buff when they set off on their next adventure in Enshrouded.

The customization isn’t limited to the buildings themselves — players can take their bases to the next level with terrain shaping tools in and around their structures, making the landscape work for them. Use the land to create farm fields for planting recipe ingredients, taking care to use the right kind of soil, to ensure stock is always ready for the next adventure. Players can dig further to carve out part of a mountain to build the underground lair hidden from the sunlight, add basement levels to a grand castle surrounded by a moat, or even surround your base with rolling hills using various types of terrain to invite others in or keep them out.

Players can choose to keep their fortresses for solitude, or share their spaces with friends. Enshrouded players will encounter various NPCs that can settle in their base, rewarding the player with more crafting options, new recipes, and even quests by building workshops and housing for them. NPCs will respond to your bases, and may require certain levels of comfort when visiting in order to assist. Players can also invite friends to build, farm, decorate, construct or destroy as a group. With many hands making light work, some may find the real building is in the friendships made along the way.
