'Turbo Overkill' Needs More Polishing, Delayed Until Mis August

by Rainier on July 13, 2023 @ 3:22 p.m. PDT

Turbo Overkill is an ultraviolent cyberpunk FPS where you hunt down a rogue AI in Paradise, a dystopian Blade Runner-meets-DOOM hellscape.

Rev up the savage chainsaw leg and start chopping as Johnny Turbo, a mercenary returning to clean-up his crime-ridden hometown of Paradise. In this Blade Runner-meets-DOOM hellscape, Johnny finds the city’s entire population possessed by Syn, a rogue AI, and its army of augmented minions. Desperate for enough money to outrun his past mistakes, Johnny takes on the impossible job of destroying the greatest AI ever created. Rival bounty hunters want to claim the prize first… nothing is easy in paradise.

Turbo Overkill takes over-the-top to never-before-reached heights. Activate Hero Time(™), a new form of slow motion with a twist. Build incredible speed by wall-running and dashing. Slide on your chainsaw leg, eviscerating foes and opening up bosses for critical damage, and go car-surfing—yes, riding on the hoods of flying cars. Blast away with the Twin Magnums, which lock-on and instagib several foes, the Boomer Shotgun and its attached grenade launcher, or the Telefragger sniper rifle, which teleports Johnny inside an enemy before they explode from within. The FPS genre is about to get really wild and really fun again.

Race through two dozen stages packed with secrets, bonus arena stages, and white-knuckle combat puzzles. Find game-changing collectibles to unlock punishing modifiers like triple-monster-speed and insta-kill. Combine all of Johnny’s weapons and powers to outsmart, outgun, and outrun the corrupted legions.

Publisher Apogee Entertainment and developer Trigger Happy Interactive revealed that Turbo Overkill lasers in on a 1.0 launch date of August 11, 2023 (originally planned for July 18th).

Chainsaw a path towards destiny with the surprise launch of Turbo Overkill: The Final Episode, Part 1 via Steam Early Access and GOG.

The neon-lit dystopia known as Paradise has been overrun by Syn, an all-seeing artificial intelligence dead-set on destruction. Take control of Johnny Turbo as he embarks on a gun-laden, chainsaw-tastic quest to purge his planet of Syn’s scourge of an intense, white-knuckle journey toward the epic conclusion of Turbo Overkill.

The Final Episode, Part 1 kicks destruction into overdrive with five new Syn-enhanced, ability-boosting augments: paint the town red with dual chainsaw arms, and rev up fresh carnage with the addition of a second chainsaw leg. Rain down street-cleansing firepower from new heights with the addition of triple jump and wall slides, and fast-travel with Syntech portals for quick long-distance warping.

Slay a fresh batch of brainwashed baddies in The Final Episode, Part 1 with new cybernetic monstrosities roaming the blood-soaked streets (and skies… and… space!?). Prepare for mayhem against dinosaur-like Mortars, massive four-legged Clops equipped with chainsaw spears, and bloodthirsty clones of Maw, Johnny’s arch nemesis (voiced by Gianna Matragrano).

Turbo Overkill: The Final Episode packs a silver screen-worthy musical punch with a cyberpunk/orchestral fusion original soundtrack by Tim Stoney (Star Wars: Obi Wan Kenobi - Trailer theme), Assassins Creed: Origins - Trailer theme), and Nikola Jeremic (Cyberpunk 2077, Destiny 2), and Chipper Hammond (Disney Shanghai Parade, Arranger) complimented by the legendary “Blaster Beam” instrument performed by Craig Huxley (Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Wars: Episode II).

Turbo Overkill’s 1.0 launch will conclude the epic narrative with the second half of Episode 3. Witness the finale and take on Turbo Overkill’s god-like villains with a level of firepower even a supercomputer could not predict. Execute over-the-top kill combos with precision to unlock achievements, take the fast-paced frenzy online with multiplayer options, and redesign Paradise into a completely different experience with full mod support.

“We wanted to surprise Turbo Overkill fans with Episode 3, Part 1, which is bigger in scope than anything we’ve done in the past 2 episodes combined. We are incredibly grateful for our fans’ support and feedback along this early access journey, and hope they enjoy this surprise launch,” said Sam Prebble, lead developer. “1.0 is just around the corner, with plenty of surprises left to unveil.”

Currently available through Steam Early Access at $19.95, Turbo Overkill is coming to PC (Steam) on August 11, 2023, followed by Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S at a later time.
