'Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged' Partners With The Fast & Furious Franchise For Iconic Rides - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on July 28, 2023 @ 12:11 p.m. PDT

With all-new mechanics, environments, vehicle styles, and game modes, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged revs the arcade fun up to the next level, taking players to unexplored horizons in their Hot Wheels gaming experience.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged will launch with over 130 vehicles, including the debut of motocycles and ATVs. Stock, Powered, and Ultimate vehicle categories will provide varied driving experiences, while players will be able to further customize their driving style using skill points to earn specific perks and assemble their ideal custom build. Each vehicle class has its own unique style and feel, with each playing differently. For example, vehicles in the Rocket category deliver unmatched speed on straightaways, while those in the Balanced category offer a perfect blend of speed and maneuverability. The Swift category presents a lighter and fiercely competitive option, while the Drifter is perfect for mastering corners with professional finesse. In contrast, the Heavy Duty category features colossal and robust vehicles, and the Off-Road class represents the ideal choice for conquering the most challenging off-track terrains.

Along with the greater diversity of vehicles and environments, which open up more dynamic and strategic racing scenarios, drivers’ skills will be tested with the addition of two new abilities to the Unleashed series – dash and jump.

With the power of boost, players will be able to Jump or Double Jump at any moment. With a boosted hop, racers can fly over their enemies, avoid obstacles, and navigate tight spaces. Racers who flex their creative muscles can even use this trick to find new shortcuts or reach new sections of the track.

Alongside jumps, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is introducing the Lateral Dash, which gives players the chance to use strength instead of speed. Through this maneuver, players can collide with cars on either flank to force opponents off the track or bounce them against a track’s barriers. Lateral Dash and Jump open up vast new options for racers in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged, and when paired with the game’s boost and drift mechanics, give players a new way to race.

These innovations, alongside the drift and boost features already present in series, ensure that each race offers a unique and thrilling experience while giving players more control over their finishing place every race.

Racers can take these new maneuvers and their already radical racing skills to Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged’s five brand-new environments. Blaze across the sticks in an old-fashioned Arcade, tear up grass in the Backyard of a family home turned racing arena, kick up dust in a Wild West-inspired Mini Golf Course, make history in a Museum amongst fossils, and top up at a Gas Station diner. These diverse areas will bring racers both indoors and outdoors, on track and in the dirt. With seamless transitions between each setting, racers will have to adjust for their new environment, fully testing their skills. For the creatively inclined, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged also offers a Track Room where fully custom racetracks can be made from scratch.

Milestone and Mattel announced a collaboration with Universal Games and Digital Platforms to put players in die-cast cars inspired by one of cinema’s most popular global franchises, the Fast & Furious, in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged.

On day one, players will be able to drive the unstoppable Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody, driven by Dominic Toretto in the Fast & Furious franchise, with more vehicles from the iconic series to be added post-launch as paid downloadable content.

A massive collaboration between Milestone and Universal, the upcoming cars from Fast & Furious heading to Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged were first hinted at earlier this year in Universal Pictures’ movie Fast X, when Dominic Toretto's son Brian and sister Mia played Hot Wheels Unleashed on screen. With the new mechanics coming to players in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged, Fast fans will be able to pull off some of the film franchise’s bombastic stunts in full die-cast glory.

Besides boosting and drifting, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged gives players the opportunity to Jump and Double Jump. With a boosted hop, racers can fly over their enemies, avoid obstacles, and navigate tight spaces. Racers who flex their creative muscles can even use this trick to find new shortcuts or reach new sections of the track.

Alongside these new jumps is the Lateral Dash, which gives players the chance to use strength instead of speed. Collide with cars on either flank and force your opponents off the track. All of these new maneuvers will come into play when players explore the five brand-new environments featured in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged. Blaze across the sticks in an old-fashioned Arcade, tear up grass in the Backyard of a family home turned racing arena, kick up dust in a Wild West-inspired Mini Golf Course, make history in a Museum amongst fossils, and top up at a Gas Station diner.

This collaboration, revealed through the above high-octane trailer that teases the cars still to come, combines two of the world’s greatest racing franchises for one colossal experience.

“We’re delighted to bring these two iconic racing franchises even closer together in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged, building on years of collaboration with our wonderful partners at Universal Games and Digital Platforms,” said Mike DeLaet, Global Head of Digital Gaming at Mattel. “You’d be hard pressed to find a more natural pairing than Hot Wheels and Fast & Furious, and the team at Milestone have done an outstanding job with bringing these fan-favorite vehicles to life in authentic Hot Wheels Unleashed fashion."

“We are proud and excited to collaborate with Universal Games and Digital Platforms to bring the legendary Fast & Furious franchise to the virtual tracks of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged," said Andrea Loiudice, Publishing Director at Milestone. “This partnership will fuel the adrenaline of players worldwide, who will unleash their imagination behind the wheel of their favorite Fast & Furious vehicles. We appreciate Mattel’s contribution to such a significant collaboration and we can't wait to witness the thrill and joy it will bring to gamers worldwide.”

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged will feature a variety of new game modes that add a fresh layer of fun and challenges both online and offline, including events that push drivers’ skills to the limit or teach them how to master the art of drifting and avoiding crashes with speed and precision. The fan-favorite, two-player split-screen mode is also back to fuel exciting duels on the couch, while a number of improvements, including the ability to create a party with friends and the addition of cross-play*, will ignite the online multiplayer experience.

A story-driven career mode starring four original characters is just one more massive addition to Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged. Each character’s background and personality will be presented through animated cutscenes that immerses racers in a captivating narrative, making their journey into the world of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged truly unforgettable.

To truly dominate the competition, a combination of muscle and brain is essential. That’s why Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged introduces a brand-new Skill System that allows players to customize their vehicles for a totally personalized ride. With the Skill Points earned, players can invest in a Skill Tree, consisting of three branches, each focusing on different aspects of a car's driving abilities. They include improving the vehicle's boost and related features, improving handling, and much more.

In Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged it's not just what's under the hood that matters – players must make their car their own. As such, the Livery Editor will allow the creation of unique liveries that let players stand out on the track, while the new Sticker Editor will let Hot Wheels artists create, save, and share specific patterns and shapes, allowing for further customization of their vehicle's appearance. Once they are satisfied with their designs, they can share them with the world, showcasing their artistic skills to fellow racers.

User-generated content played a critical role in the success of Hot Wheels Unleashed, which boasts over 1 million user-created liveries and four-hundred thousand tracks designed by Hot Wheels fans. The welath of options to unleash players’ creativity is even larger in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged.

The refined Track Editor will introduce new special modules and features that increase the diversity of player-generated tracks, whereas a Livery Editor update will introduce the Sticker Editor to create, save, and share original patterns and shapes. To ensure everyone can enjoy the creations of their fellow players, all user-generated content will be shareable cross-platform from Day One of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam and The Epic Games Store) on October 19, 2023.
