Europa Universalis IV, Paradox Interactive's flagship historical grand strategy game, celebrates its 10th anniversary this month!
Set in the four centuries between 1444 and 1821, Europa Universalis IV lets you play as any nation in history through that time span as the world moves through the Renaissance and Reformation to the Enlightenment and Age of Revolutions. Explore the globe in search of new lands, choose national ideas that suit your ambitions, and challenge yourself to outdo the great rulers and conquerors of the past.
To celebrate the anniversary, Paradox is giving all Europa Universalis IV players a free music pack with ten songs remastered by community composer “Utopia”.
Europa Universalis IV has been in constant development and improvement since its launch a decade ago, making it one of the oldest strategy games still seeing active work and expansion. Paradox Tinto released the Domination Expansion Pack in April 2023, adding even more options and historical flavor to many of the game’s most popular nations.
"Ten years is a long time to support a strategy game," says Game Director Johan Andersson of Paradox Tinto. "Europa Universalis is our flagship series, so it will always be a special case, but I am continually impressed by the creativity and ambition of our development team. Europa Universalis IV has changed a lot from its original design, but the core ideas remain the same. Players should be able to write new histories with their nation at the center of world events. We've added more variety, more strategies, and more real historical flavor over the last ten years, and EU4 has led directly to the creation of our Tinto studio in Sitges, Spain. We owe a great deal to the community that this game has developed and somehow sustained over the last ten years."
To celebrate this anniversary, Paradox has dedicated the month of August to a host of new community events, including story-telling, art and special challenges for Europa Universalis IV players, as well as major discounts on the game at participating online retailers.
