Set in an alternative 19th century Brittany, An Ankou sees players assume the role of “The Ankou”, a servant of death and the last dead of the year. Reborn as one of the first three playable classes (Soldier, Apothecary or Nun), players will re-enter the world to reincarnate spirits and guide them to their final rest. 

With death comes a new job. An Ankou is a fast-paced action roguelike where you usher souls from the land of the living whilst battling hordes of demons. As the servant of Death, explore a haunted open environment, scavenge resources, craft equipment, level up and fight back against powerful enemy forces. If the Ankou fails in their task, they’ll be reborn to try again.

Set in a beautifully hand-crafted open map filled with random events scattered across the maps and challenging bosses, An Ankou offers pin-point combat, instant replayability with each playthrough unique, all wrapped in a striking artstyle.

Death has given you a new purpose. Legends state that the last dead of the year becomes the Ankou, who helps lost souls depart the land of the living. And for some reason, this is a busy year.… With your scythe, cart, and tools from your living profession, collect resources and souls to craft weapons, upgrade and survive.

Each run, a newly dead person inhabits the role of the Ankou, and they bring the knowledge and tools from their profession in life. Each version of the Ankou gives you access to new weapons and abilities to unlock as you dispatch unruly demons. How many souls can you aid using the skills of a blacksmith, a soldier, an apothecary, a cook and others?

Developer Alkemi Games and publisher PID Games announced that An Ankou is now available through Steam Early Access at $4.99/€4.99 with a limited-time release discount of 10%.

Players will be able to choose between two playable classes: Soldier and Apothecary, which are the professions they had before becoming the Ankou. Each will provide different skills and tools for the task.

By the end of 2023 there’ll be new classes, fresh weaponry, challenging creatures to face and all new encounters to battle through.

Guided by feedback from its playerbase, Alkemi Games are set to deliver bi-weekly updates on their path to 1.0.
