'Apex Legends' Partners With Square Enix for Limited-Time Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Crossover Event - Trailer

by Rainier on Jan. 4, 2024 @ 9:36 a.m. PST

Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends is a free to play battle royale game with a cast of unique characters, squad-based gameplay, innovative mechanics and more.

Apex Legends delivers a squad-based battle royale experience with a uniquely Respawn flavor. Players will select from one of eight Legends - each with their own unique abilities and playstyles - and the last team standing wins. Combatants can choose from unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker who can see recent enemy activity on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield medic who can shield teammates and bring them back from the brink of death. Balanced squads and teamwork are critical, as each Legend is easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.

Apex Legends showcases several new genre-leading innovations, starting before players even start the match. Once players are ready to begin, they’ll choose their drop point with the Jumpmaster system, giving each squad full control over exactly where they drop in. Is it smarter to head straight for the most valuable loot and risk early conflict with other teams, or make for one of the outlying areas to plot an attack and let other squads pick each other off?

On January 9th, players will be able to check out a brand new Limited Time Mode Takeover in Apex Legends, featuring the Buster Sword R2R5 and Materia hop ups, along with a range of new Final Fantasy VII inspired cosmetic items including new Legendary and Epic skins, stickers, emotes, and more.

For three weeks of infinite possibilities, the Final Fantasy VII Takeover will replace the unranked battle royale mode in Apex Legends. In this exciting new mode, players can wield the Buster Sword R2R5 to dash, block bullets, unleash a powerful Limit Break, and more. New effects join the game in the form of Materia Hop-Ups, which grant benefits like area-of-effect (AOE) lightning and HP Absorption, plus a SOLDIER Nessie to fight by players’ sides.

But players won’t just be embracing gameplay inspired by Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, they’ll be looking the part too! New skins come to the Outlands, including a moogle inspired skin for Wattson, along with iconic skins for Wraith, Crypto, and more. These skins can be bought with Apex Coins, and are part of 36 limited-time Final Fantasy VII Rebirth-themed cosmetics. Players can collect them by purchasing Event packs to obtain items from the knockout pool, including the Mythic Buster Sword R5, the first Mythic cosmetic that can be equipped by any Legend!

The Apex Legends & Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Event brings two gaming icons to the same universe, but only for a limited time.

The innovations don’t stop there as Apex Legends also delivers Respawn Beacons, one-time use locations where defeated teammates can be revived, a contextual Ping communication system that allows players to call out enemies, weapons, locations and more with the push of a button, and an intelligent inventory system which automatically attaches gear and equipment to the appropriate weapons once players pick them up. All together it creates a battle royale experience unlike any other, complete with Respawn’s commitment to top-notch quality and fun.

Apex Legends is now available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
