'Warframe' Shows Off Warframe: 1999 Expansion, New Protoframes, Prequel Comic, Release Date At The Game Awards - Trailer

by Rainier on Nov. 20, 2024 @ 8:00 a.m. PST

Warframe is a free-to-play fast-action co-op focused shooter set in an evolving sci-fi world.

Set in the far reaches of outer space during a new Dark Age, WarFrame introduces the Tenno, a race on the brink of extinction after being enslaved by the Grineer for centuries. Players enter WarFrame on the cusp of the Grineer's victory over the Tenno until they begin to arm themselves with WarFrames - an ancient exo-skeletal technology only they can operate. Hidden within the Orokin Derelicts of a lost civilization, new WarFrames lie dormant and undiscovered. These artifacts are the Tenno's only hope for survival.

WarFrame is a free-to-play fast-action PvE shooter set in an evolving sci-fi world. Some would call it MMO-Lite as squads of four players band together to advance their characters and battle the oppression of the genocidal Grineer. Throughout their combat missions, players will continually increase the power and abilities of their WarFrame and weapons. Players will raid new areas of space searching for exotic and powerful weapons and WarFrame augmentations to customize their arsenal. With WarFrame's Automatic Mission Generator, the game will offer endless replay as levels are procedurally configured for a unique raid -- every time.

Warframe: 1999 is an upcoming expansion that will be released in Update 38.0 in December 2024. It follows a group of "Protoframes" known as the Hex as they try to locate Dr. Entrati in the year of 1999.

Digital Extremes released a free prequel webcomic today for the next narrative chapter of its sci-fi opera epic, Warframe: 1999. This project was brought to life through a collaboration with dedicated Warframe community artist, Karu.

Available alongside our Warframe: 1999 update, Gemini Skins allow you to switch between a Warframe and their Protoframe counterpart on-the-fly simply by activating a unique Emote. Each Skin is customizable and comes equipped with a complete suite of voice-acted barks and shouts that you can hear during gameplay for maximum immersion.

Uncover the origins of the Protoframes in a digital prequel comic

The lives of six misfits were ruined by the experiments of the enigmatic scientist, Albrecht Entrati. Now in a race against time, this newfound crew must band together to hunt down the one responsible for their recent transgressions while forging a new family along the way.

This 33-page webcomic is available for free on the official Warframe website, as well as on Tapas Canvas, Imgur, and Webtoon.

Players can also decorate their in-game landing crafts with the comic book’s cover art as a free decoration available on the Warframe marketplace.

In celebration of the comic’s release, mini-figure painting aficionados can also download 3D models of the Protoframes to print and paint to their heart’s content, thanks to a collaboration with Hoku Props.
