2024 Recap: Dota 2 at the EWC
Dota 2 competition at the EWC 2024, the Riyadh Masters, showcased Gaimin Gladiators' dominant performance, with the team becoming the first ever Esports World Cup Dota 2 champions. The squad won with incredible skill and teamwork, sweeping Team Liquid 3-0 in the grand final to claim an impressive $1.5 million from the $5 million prize pool. Their journey to victory was remarkable, only dropping a single game during the entire playoff stage of the tournament.
Team Liquid earned $800,000 for second place, while Saudi Arabia's Team Falcons took third and $600,000. Gaimin Gladiators' Mid player, Quinn, reflected on the win, saying, “It’s nice to prove to ourselves that we can grind from the bottom back up to the top again.”
Quinn was awarded $50,000 from the tournament sponsor PlayStation as the MVP for his unstoppable mid lane performances throughout the tournament. The midlaner was surprised to learn about the prize, admitting he had assumed "it would just be a PS5.”
The Esports World Cup is a global celebration of competitive excellence and esports fandom. Making its return to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2025, the annual Esports World Cup features a unique cross-game format that pits the world’s top esports Clubs and more than 1,500 players against one another for a share of the largest prize pool in esports history.
