'Goat Simulator' Celebrating 10th Anniversary With DLC News, Capybara Reveal, and More

by Rainier on April 30, 2024 @ 6:49 p.m. PDT

Goat Simulator 3 has everything Goat Sim fans could possibly want and more: classic headbutting gameplay, mini-games and quests to complete, and more ways to traverse the world than you’d ever truly expect from a goat.

Goat Simulator 3 is a direct sequel to Goat Simulator, a silly game that started life as an April Fool’s joke born out of a game jam.

Goat Simulator 3 builds on everything fans of the first game loved, raising the baa to brand new heights (sometimes literally), starting an all-new adventure, once again featuring Pilgor the goat. This time she’s found new pastures on the sprawling sandbox island of San Angora, a place where mysteries and chaos follow wherever you go. Players are free to roam around and discover the island’s secrets or, well, just destroy stuff. This is a Goat Simulator, after all.

Built from the gravel up, this next generation of goat simulation has it all; Goats, goats wearing hats, goats riding a goat wearing a hat. There are also unnatural disasters, secret animal societies, triple jumping and probably any other nonsense you could think up. But truly, what is all this exciting newness without friends to explore it with? In Goat Simulator 3, you can gather as a herd of up to 4 friends to be the goats of your dreams, together. Yes, Goat Simulator 3 has online multiplayer!

Much like the original Goat Simulator, the sequel’s gameplay revolves around exploration, puzzle solving and “accidentally” destroying anything in sight - but this time there is so much more of it all. Blast NPCs with alien weapons, start wacky minigames anywhere in the sandbox (keep reading), become a “rhino” and stampede through town (sentence is soon over), join a secret goat society and help them achieve their goals, (hold that breath) drive a car straight into a gas station (what’s up with goats and gas stations anyway?), and so much more! The world truly is your oyster* (puh, you made it!).

But everyone knows you can’t destroy the world if you don’t look good. In Goat Simulator 3, there are so many fashionable items to get your hooves on. If you want to roam around wearing a pink tutu, a giant blonde wig and with paint tins for shoes, who are we to stop you? It differentiates you from that one friend who’s dressed like a medieval knight shooting lasers from their eyes, and the other that’s cosplaying a giant abominable banana (aka Abominana), after all.

Coffee Stain Publishing and Coffee Stain North are excited to share a special video celebrating 10 years of Goat Simulator, alongside some new information about upcoming plans for Goat Simulator 3.

Coffee Stain have declared 2024 the Year of the Goat, and fans can expect answers to all their questions in the coming months with the release of a handful of new content, including Goat Simulator 3’s first ever major DLC. All will be revealed in time…

Santiago Ferrero, Creative Director at Coffee Stain North, said: “In the 10 years since we launched the original Goat Simulator, we’ve released a goat-load of fun DLC and updates for fans to enjoy. Rest assured that there’s plenty more to come! I would say more, but the reality is Pilgor will headbutt me* if I spoil anything, so you’ll have to wait and see.”

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF GOAT SIMULATOR

Hey Goat fans! We hope you’re enjoying the Goat Simulator 3 anniversary update from earlier this month that brought back the classic NPCs. Can you believe it’s been a whole 10 YEARS since the original Goat Simulator was released? Wild! I guess time flies when you’re having fun headbutting strangers and wreaking havoc. In honour of the 10th anniversary, we thought we’d take a moment to celebrate how far we’ve come from humble beginnings in GoatVille, and reflect on some of our favourite moments from the past 10 years.

First, let’s talk about all the DLC for the original game, because wow there was a lot of it! From the post-apocalyptic hellscape of Goat-Z and the medieval fantasy world of MMO Simulator, to the other side of the galaxy in the Waste of Space DLC, we’ve had our share of wacky content updates. Let’s not forget Goat Simulator: PAYDAY and that rambunctious inter-species heist crew either!

All of that beautiful content paved the way for Goat Simulator 3, which launched in November 2022 and set us off on a new journey of caprine chaos. We wanted to take this moment to share some of our highlights from the past year and a half since launch.

A good place to start is that we’ve managed to get a 7 ft tall goat statue in our office. Some of you may recognise this beautiful depiction of our infamous she-goat Pilgor, who made her debut at Gamescom in 2022. Now she watches over our Stockholm office, greeting staff and warding off our enemies.

Since we originally released Goat Simulator 3, we’ve added a bunch of free post-launch content. Our Christmas Update came just three weeks after launch, and had us wrapping up our poor NPCs in festive decorations, as well as implementing some of the team’s favourite gear – the lights machine gun. A few months after that, the Easter Update, AKA Operation Crackdown, had the team obsessing over eggs. It was the perfect opportunity to add in the Feather Goat, paying homage to the original 2014 Goat Simulator, as well as have our players go on an island-wide treasure hunt.

In Summer 2023, we launched the Shadiest Update, which was initially intended to add just one piece of gear. We ended up brainstorming further and couldn’t hold back; one gear turned into 28! And thus, the goatkini was born (sorry not sorry).

By far one of our favourite experiences, however, was collaborating with CATAN. On April 1st 2023, Pilgor traded places with CATAN’s resource sheep. While our game only briefly became “Sheep Simulator 3”, sheep are still kicking around in our world if you want to play as a Pilgor’s woolly counterpart.

While you might think for a team like us that everything weird should seem normal, we’re still surprised and delighted by you, our community who are seemingly as bizarre as us. We're currently working on a small update from a gear design competition, from which the winning wearable gear features a sad Blobfish named Bob who really stares into your soul. We love him. And we can’t wait to hear more of the absurd ideas you have too, so please do keep sharing them with us.

You can also watch our brand new Journey of Pilgor video at the top of this post to take a (literal) trip down memory lane and get a sneak peek at what’s next for Goat Simulator 3… Rest assured that there are plenty more updates and announcements on the way, including a major DLC that we know you’re going to enjoy.

Why not see if you can complete our custom-made 10th-anniversary Bingo card over the coming year as more and more is revealed? We may have thrown some red herrings in there for fun, though there’s bound to be a winning line (or two) somewhere.

Key Features:

  • GOATS: You play as a goat! Pilgor, to be exact. However, you’ll also have the chance to wear the skins of many other ‘goats’. Tall goats, tasty goats, angry goats - all the goats you expect and more.
  • MULTIPLAYER: Your friends play as goats too! Goat Simulator 3 has 4 player co-op, locally or online. You’ll be able to travel through the world together, cause cooperative mischief aplenty, and compete in 7 fun multiplayer mini-games, and then not be friends anymore.
  • EXPLORATION: Goat Simulator 3’s giant new sandbox has plenty to discover - hidden secrets, quests, collectables and the devs actually bothered to make an ending this time! Use your own four hooves to get around, grind on your butt or buckle up for the ride of your life as all goats can drive cars*.
  • CHAOS AND REACTIVITY: Cause all manner of mayhem as you lick, headbutt, crash and explode your way across the map, leaving no NPC unannoyed. Toy with the universally recognised four elements (Fire, Electricity, Oil and Alien Goo), test the limits of the world’s physics and interact with suspicious objects for… surprising results.
  • CUSTOMISATION: Players can fully customise their goat’s Head, Back, Feet, Body, Horns and Furs with over 300 different gear parts to choose from - from toilet rolls to tea trays… and other actual clothing items, if you want to be like that. Some gear parts will mutate your playstyle by giving you new abilities, all will alter your perceived sense of style.

Goat Simulator 3 is available for Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC (Steam/Epic Games Store).
