'Apex Legends' To Get Shockwave Update Next Week, Adds New Map, Weapon, Free Revivals And More - Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 1, 2024 @ 2:51 p.m. PDT

Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends is a free to play battle royale game with a cast of unique characters, squad-based gameplay, innovative mechanics and more.

Apex Legends delivers a squad-based battle royale experience with a uniquely Respawn flavor. Players will select from one of eight Legends - each with their own unique abilities and playstyles - and the last team standing wins. Combatants can choose from unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker who can see recent enemy activity on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield medic who can shield teammates and bring them back from the brink of death. Balanced squads and teamwork are critical, as each Legend is easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.

Apex Legends showcases several new genre-leading innovations, starting before players even start the match. Once players are ready to begin, they’ll choose their drop point with the Jumpmaster system, giving each squad full control over exactly where they drop in. Is it smarter to head straight for the most valuable loot and risk early conflict with other teams, or make for one of the outlying areas to plot an attack and let other squads pick each other off?

Apex Legends: Shockwave brings the ENERGY as Respawn unveils the next season with a brand-new gameplay trailer ahead of the August 6, 2024 launch.

Players can expect Shockwave to be fully charged with new energy - bringing new content, goodies, weapons and a whole lot more including:

  • Free Revivals - Stay in the games with Unlimited Revivals until the end of Round 4. As long as one squadmate is alive, players and their squad will always be recharged with revivals.
  • New Map: E-District - Raising the voltage brings E-District, the newest close-quarters map built for verticality and instant, continuous action. A neon playground where anything can happen.
  • Battle Sense - Players will feel their power surge with visible Enemy Health Bars and Highlights - just don’t lose line of sight.
  • Straight Shot Revival & Bot Royale - Dropping hot with some updates - players will always have another straight shot starting early on in Shockwave. Additionally, the new Bot Royale mode will be available starting August 6 and lets players get real combat experience while sending bots to the scrapyard either solo or with a premade squad.
  • New Weapon Meta: Akimbo - With both guns blazing, players can dual-wield P2020s and Mozambiques to galvanize the battlefield and automatically double up on firepower.

Apex Legends: Shockwave launches on August 6, 2024 for all platforms

The innovations don’t stop there as Apex Legends also delivers Respawn Beacons, one-time use locations where defeated teammates can be revived, a contextual Ping communication system that allows players to call out enemies, weapons, locations and more with the push of a button, and an intelligent inventory system which automatically attaches gear and equipment to the appropriate weapons once players pick them up. All together it creates a battle royale experience unlike any other, complete with Respawn’s commitment to top-notch quality and fun.

Apex Legends is now available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
