'Spectre Divide' Season 1: Flashpoint Adds Battle Pass, Map, QoL Optimizations, And New Sponsor In February, Coincides With PS5 and Xbox Launch

by Rainier on Jan. 9, 2025 @ 5:28 p.m. PST

Spectre Divide is a competitive 3v3 tactical shooter driven by Duality, a mechanic that lets you control two bodies in real-time.

Spectre is set in the near future city of Breakwater, where the unsanctioned competition of “Santai” is the pinnacle of achievement and status. In Spectre, there are no predetermined characters—this is your climb to champion. Create your own pair of competitors and forge a legacy through combat, competition, and community.

Spectre Divide is a competitive 3v3 tactical FPS that advances the genre forward with Duality, a mechanic that intuitively keeps players engaged in the small team format. While there are three players per team, every player will control a “Spectre”, a second body they can freely swap between in real-time. This deepens the tactical options available during a gunfight, allowing players to protect both points in the game's take on classic Attacker/Defender bombsite defusal, quickly cover teammates by switching to the body nearest to them, and more.

Control two bodies in real-time, letting you defend two sites at once, cover your own cross, or even trade yourself. Duality is an entirely new vector for mastery, bringing a new dimension to tac shooter fundamentals.

It also gives them an opportunity for redemption when one body is defeated.

Spectre Divide honors the titles that have come before it by blazing a brilliant new path for the genre. The team’s pedigree includes decades of combined experience on titles like Counter-Strike: Global OffensiveValorantApex LegendsOverwatchCall of Duty, and Halo. That pedigree drives design that exemplifies Mountaintop Studios’ desire to foster incredible communities and bring players together through unforgettable challenges. Further, Mountaintop is collaborating with genre experts like Shroud who, after taking a gameplay consultant role, has brought a heft of experience that helped turn Spectre Divide into a high-paced squad-based shooter that is immediately ready to join the competitive fray.

Master tactical gunplay and an arsenal of future tech to achieve infamy.

Mountaintop Studios unveiled a new Developer Update video for Spectre Divide, offering a sneak peek at “Flashpoint,” the title’s first major seasonal content update. Console players also have reason to celebrate, with the studio sharing launch details for the tactical 3v3 shooter worldwide debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S late February.

After spending more time with your feedback across Discord, Steam, and a ton of other community spaces, we came to the conclusion that we'd need to do more with Season 1 to give Spectre the best shot at a real comeback. That meant slowing down weekly updates and giving ourselves the necessary time to land everything we wanted to include.

Mountaintop will continue to focus on adding new content features for Season 1, making QOL improvements requested by PC players, as well finalizing the development of console versions. Weekly playtests for the functionality are currently underway, and interested players can sign up HERE to participate.

Key Features:

  • DUALITY: ONE MIND, TWO BODIES - Use Duality to freely swap between your second body—called a Spectre—at any moment to outplay the enemy team. Strategically place your Spectre to cover multiple sites across the map, play two angles at once, and quickly reinforce teammates. Death can’t stop you. Your Spectre is a second chance at victory, giving you twice the uptime so you can run it back and make sure to hit your shots the second time around.
  • CRAFTED FOR 3v3 COMPETITION - Take turns as Attackers and Defenders to plant or defuse the ZEUS device across 2-site maps. Earn rank as a team or a solo competitor in highly competitive ranked matchmaking. Or get your reps in with casual and custom play. Every match matters with Crews, a weekly engagement-based competition, where teams of 50-60 players compete to score the most points and move up the seasonal leaderboard. Custom networking technology and a modern anti-cheat approach means you can focus on the win instead of the playing field.
  • TENSE, TACTICAL, GUNPLAY - Get the most from your loadout with true-to-crosshair accuracy that lets you shoot on the move with aim-down-sights (ADS) gameplay.
  • FUTURE TECH ARSENAL - Pick from 8 Sponsor kits, each with a distinct loadout to fit your playstyle. Whether you love to set traps, drop smokes, or support teammates—Sponsors let you flex on the opposition. Every Sponsor loadout is integrated with Duality, so grab your guns, grab your gear, and craft new ways to outplay the competition.
  • VISCERAL, ANIME-INSPIRED WORLD - Spectre’s style is rooted in sci-fi comic book art and the classic Japanese cel animation of the ‘90s. The world has a hand-drawn look and feel, capturing the same energy and momentum as the concept sketch. The style presents clean visual reads, perfect for executing next-level plays.
  • FORGE YOUR LEGACY - Compete with your Crew of 60 friends in a weekly, engagement-based competition to score the most points and move up the leaderboard.  No predetermined characters—this is your climb. Personalize the look of your own pair of competitors and crush the competition in style. Customize faces, hair styles, tattoos, outfits, and weapons, then live your journey to champion.

Currently available for PC (Steam), Spectre Divide is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in February 2025.
