In News Tower, players manage a media company in 1930s New York City, inheriting a small business on the brink of bankruptcy and transforming it into a thriving media empire.
Expand your newsroom equipment, hire the right people for the job, and manage everything from deciding which stories get published to rearranging the ever-shrinking office layout and restocking essential charcoal to keep the building’s lights on, all in a bid to become the best-selling newspaper in the city.
Before breaking news alerts and social feeds, there were ink-stained newsrooms, pneumatic tubes, and citywide newsstands. News Tower captures the golden era of journalism with a satirical spin, placing players in charge of everything from layout and hiring to headlines and heat.
The game’s look and feel are steeped in real historical details, from print room machinery to headline events like Prohibition, the Great Depression, and the rise of fascism. Characters and factions draw inspiration from real-world figures, like a military leader modeled after General MacArthur and his vocal opposition to extreme isolationism.
While News Tower is a tongue-in-cheek simulation, its headlines and story arcs are based on meticulous research into how major newspapers of the era reported on pivotal events. From organized crime to political propaganda, Sparrow Night infuses a unique narrative design with thoughtful references to the press's role in shaping public perception at the time.
Sparrow Night and Twin Sails Interactive announced that the full 1.0 release of News Tower will now roll off the presses on November 18, 2025, instead of the originally planned release for November 4.
While the new 1.0 game content is finished, stable, and ready, the new launch date ensures News Tower gets the spotlight it deserves in a busy season for strategy and tycoon fans. Alongside the new launch date announcement, we get a new “Behind the Music” video, spotlighting the unique 1930s-inspired jazz score that gives News Tower its authentic big-band newsroom vibe.
Set in the heart of the big band era, News Tower’s soundtrack draws inspiration from icons like Count Basie and Duke Ellington, capturing the soul of a bustling newsroom through rhythm and improvisation. The team opted for live jazz recordings performed by members of the New Cool Collective, blending authenticity with a modern edge tailored for gameplay.
Watch the above Behind The Music video to hear composer Bart van de Sande talk about the soundtrack's layered approach, which they used to mirror tension and pace in the game.
1.0 Release Features: New Rivalries, New Reach, New Languages!
Far from a delay driven by development, News Tower’s 1.0 build is already complete and stable. The decision reflects Twin Sails’ player-first approach, timing Sparrow Night's debut to ensure the game is seen and discovered by every aspiring journalist, newspaper mogul, tycoon, and strategy fan when it comes out on November 18.
“Timing matters in both newspapers and video games,” said the Sparrow Night team. “By giving News Tower its own clear headline moment, we’re making sure our players and community can experience the excitement of building their media empire without distraction.”
