'Grand Theft Auto Online' Update Adds Return of Zombie Survivals, New Submerged Slasher Mode, Extraterrestrial Encounters, and More

by Rainier on Oct. 2, 2025 @ 8:58 a.m. PDT

Set in the sprawling city of Los Santos and the surrounding area, Grand Theft Auto V delivers a world of unprecedented scale and detail bursting with life, from mountaintops to the depths of the ocean.

When a young street hustler, a retired bank robber and a terrifying psychopath find themselves entangled with some of the most frightening and deranged elements of the criminal underworld, the U.S. government and the entertainment industry, they must pull off a series of dangerous heists to survive in a ruthless city in which they can trust nobody, least of all each other.

Switch between the interconnected lives of Michael, Trevor and Franklin as they embark on a series of heists across Los Santos and Blaine County in the biggest, deepest and richest open world experience yet, with game world enhancements that include new wildlife, upgraded weather and damage effects, and an array of new details to discover.

Grand Theft Auto V also comes with Grand Theft Auto Online, the dynamic and ever-evolving online universe for up to 30 players, and includes all existing gameplay upgrades and content released since the launch of Grand Theft Auto Online.

Rise through the ranks to become a CEO of your own criminal empire by trading contraband or form a Motorcycle Club and rule the streets. Pull off daring co-operative Heists, enter adrenaline-fueled Stunt Races, compete in unique Adversary Modes or create your own content to play and share with the entire GTA community.

Halloween descends on Southern San Andreas throughout October with a bubbling cauldron of chaos. There are reports of UFO sightings, bizarre transformations, and many more tricks and treats across GTA Online.

Take on a new Slasher mode inside the claustrophobic Ramius submarine, or fight it out in returning favorites Beast vs. SlasherJudgement Day, and Condemned. Halloween also brings boo-sted payouts and more in October, starting with 2X GTA$ and RP on Bunker Sell Missions and 30% off Bunkers and their Upgrades & Modifications this week.

Get into the sinister spirit with free Halloween Masks and discounted spooky vehicles like the LCC Sanctus (Motorcycle) and Albany Lurcher (Muscle), the returning Albany Fränken Stange (Sports Classic) and Chariot Romero Hearse (Sedan), and more.

Also, celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in GTA Online. Play anytime through October 8 to get the Red Yeti Fall Cap and may your future be as bright as a full moon over Los Santos.

Zombie Survivals Return

There’s double trouble this month as Cayo Perico Survival and Ludendorff Cemetery Survival both return to GTA Online for a limited time, bringing tides of zombies to party-fueled paradise and snowy small town alike.

Return to El Rubio’s island and North Yankton to tear through Waves of the undead, hulking juggernauts, armored conquistadors, splitters, possessed animals and their trainers, zombie DJs, and more.

Cayo Perico Survival returns to pay out 2X GTA$ and RP from October 2–8, and Ludendorff Cemetery Survival will deal out Triple Rewards when it returns October 23–November 5.

If you’d like to create your own zombie-inspired mayhem, you can now add Island Zombie Shamblers and Runners to your own creations using the Survival Creator tool — read up on how to add them here

New Ramius Slasher

The latest twist on this Halloween classic puts you aboard the pitch-dark confines of the Ramius submarine. You’ll need to rely on your remaining senses to navigate multiple decks, survive combat at close quarters, and evade a watery grave.

The Slasher begins each round armed with a Shotgun while the Hunted can use Flashlights to navigate the darkness. After three minutes, the Hunted get Shotguns and the stalker becomes the stalked.

Fight it out beneath the waves in Slasher (Ramius Submarine) to earn 2X GTA$ and RP as part of the Featured Series from October 16–22. Previous Slasher modes also return to GTA Online throughout October.

Returning Halloween Favorites

Slasher isn’t the only Adversary Mode making a grisly return. Each week in October, a different Halloween-themed mode will be included in the Featured Series with Double Rewards (all stacking to 4X for GTA+ Members):
