Players will experience the intertwined stories of Naoe, an adept shinobi Assassin from the Iga Province, and Yasuke, the powerful samurai of historical legend. Discover their personal stories, meet pivotal historical figures, and shape the duo’s common destiny as they usher in a new era for Japan.
As Naoe and Yasuke, players can master two complementary playstyles, with each character featuring their own progression paths, skills, weapon options, and stats. Whether they embrace Naoe’s stealth skills or Yasuke’s combat prowess, players will have plenty of ways to approach objectives. With Naoe, they will experience refined infiltration mechanics using light, noise, shadows, and changing surroundings to avoid detection from enemies. With Yasuke, they will be able to take on larger groups of enemies with brutal precision.
The game will let players explore a vast open world with a variety of landscapes evolving through weather and seasons. From spectacular castle towns and bustling ports to peaceful shrines and pastoral landscapes, feudal Japan comes to life with unprecedented dynamism built from the ground up with the latest version of Anvil engine and the power of new-gen consoles.
In this troubled period, information is key and will be at the heart of the renewed exploration mechanics. Players will build their own spies’ network to unveil new areas and hunt down targets. Allies with highly specialized skills and abilities can also be recruited to help during missions. The creation of their own customizable hideout will enable players to enhance their network and train their new crew. From base building and layout to decorations and accessories, they will be able to craft a unique place to call home.
Ubisoft announced that Assassin's Creed Shadows will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, 2025. Optimized for all play modes, the Nintendo Switch 2 version will let players enjoy the game seamlessly at home or on the go. It will also include touch screen support, making navigation of menus, maps and the hideout more intuitive than ever.
At launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Assassin's Creed Shadows will include all content updates introduced since the game’s release, with only the ‘Claws of Awaji’ expansion arriving early next year.
“We are delighted to bring Assassin's Creed Shadows to Nintendo players,” said Charles Benoit, Game Director of Assassin's Creed Shadows. “Whether slipping through the shadows as Naoe or facing foes head-on as Yasuke, players will be able to roam the streets and rooftops of feudal Japan at home or anywhere their journey takes them on Nintendo Switch 2.”
Nintendo Switch 2 owners can purchase the Standard Edition of the game for $59.99 on launch day either in a physical edition including a Nintendo Switch 2 game-key card or through a download from the Nintendo eShop. The Premium Edition (digital only) is $99.99. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Assassin's Creed Shadows will support cross-progression across all platforms through Ubisoft Connect, ensuring players can continue their journey seamlessly across platforms.
Ubisoft also just released its Assassin's Creed Shadows fall update, so read on to see what's coming to Assassin's Creed Shadows in the next months.
This fall, from parkour tweaks to epic crossovers, there's something for every AC Shadows player.
Title Update 10 (October 28)
Parkour Update 2
Following our first Parkour update, we've listened to your feedback and are coming back with a 2nd Parkour Update coming October 28. This update will feature a new toggle option named "Advanced Parkour". It will remove all parkour barriers, allowing you to do side ejects and back ejects from any height. We also bring some tweaks with side eject on parkour down, giving you more freedom of expression.
The vertical ledge grab in regular parkour will now work in more situations, including non-standing objects, whether or not the advanced parkour toggle is on. From those non-standing objects, we are also introducing a new beam manual jump option. Finally, we are reintroducing a much-requested feature: the directional catch ledge mechanic.
Corrupted Castles
October 28 is also when you can expect a new Animus themed activity called Corrupted Castles. Any previously completed castle may get corrupted and filled with Animus anomalies, including Samurai Daisho and their corresponding reward chests. Up to five Corrupted Castles will appear on the map each season, allowing you plenty of opportunities to reengage those castles and higher levels of play for even greater rewards.
Title Update 11 (November 25)
Free Story drops
The 3rd story drop is coming your way on November 25th, and it's called "A Puzzlement". This quest has a much more humorous, silly tone, much more akin to something like AC Odyssey, in which we are digging up old foes from Naoe's past who are looking for a bit of redemption. Our two protagonists will learn new skills from each other:
- Naoe will learn how to perform her own spectacular version of Yasuke's war kick ability.
- Yasuke will learn how to stealthily dispatch enemies in a non-lethal way.
As the name suggests, "A Puzzlement", also introduces a brand new and intricate environmental puzzle that may hold the answers to a bunch of questions that you, the community, have been asking for a while.
But there is more! We are doubling down on free story drops because our next special collaboration is also dropping on November 25th.
You can also expect a bunch of freebies around the holiday season.
Currently available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store), Assassin's Creed Shadows is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, 2025.
