An alien world for the taking. Explore, survive and make your fortune — or die trying.
A resource-rich frontier world has opened up for human exploration and exploitation, where hopefuls claim prospects for a limited time to mine for exotic resources.
Icarus takes a session-based approach to survival games. Players take limited-time drops onto a broken planet in search of rare exotic matter, which fuels advanced tech and player progression in the game’s gritty sci-fi universe. While navigating each prospect's unique challenges, players must collect meta-resources to permanently progress, explore the damaged planet, gather resources, craft tools and machinery, build shelter, hunt wildlife, extract the exotic matter and return to their dropship in time.
Harsh environments demand an envirosuit, regular oxygen, food and water, shelter and constant attention. The wildlife is easily provoked, and your plans may need to change on the fly. Take the resources you find back to orbit to craft advanced technology for your drop, either with a crew or solo.
Use your time wisely or be left empty-handed or even left behind. Calculate the risks, stretch your endurance and resources. How far are you willing to go?
Icarus: Console Edition has been announced for Xbox Series consoles and PlayStation 5 during today’s Galaxies Showcase. The up-to-four-player PvE survival game, originally from Dean Hall (DayZ, Stationeers) and his RocketWerkz studio, arrives on consoles in Q1 2026, courtesy of Czechia’s GRIP Studios, part of the GRIP Digital family.
Icarus: Console Edition features both the original base game released on PC, together with the New Frontiers Expansion, which unleashes the non-terraformed, alien region of Prometheus for an additional 64km2 of terrain to explore. Prometheus also adds a further three deadly biomes, a host of mutated, indigenous apex predators, over 30 additional workshop items, and the ability to craft more than 100 new items that make the difference between surviving or succumbing to Icarus’ threatening environments.
The New Frontiers Expansion also includes six narrative-driven missions across a single story arc, unveiling secrets lurking in the planet’s shadows.
Icarus: Console Edition features:
- An alien planet that fights back: Every element of Icarus resists humanity’s presence, with flora, fauna, and even the planet’s atmosphere, trying to drive players back into orbit.
- Explore solo or in a party:Up to four players can drop onto the hostile alien world of Icarus, and strive to survive in the ultimate, uncompromising PvE experience.
- Two massive maps to explore:ICARUS: Console Edition includes the base game plus the New Frontiers expansion from the start, giving players 128km2 of terrain to conquer.
- Compelling progression and rewards:Begin with basic gear and advance to sophisticated tech, forge permanent upgrades with exotic matter, and master the arts of hunting, building, fishing, and survival.
- New frontiers, new deadly threats: Discover new maps, mutated creatures, ridable mounts, and untapped resources on the Prometheus region in the New Frontiers Expansion.
Jakub Mikyska, CEO, GRIP Digital, said: “We fell in love with what RocketWerkz and Dean had created when Icarus first launched on PC in 2021. The game’s imaginative and hostile alien wilderness, coupled with their trademark survival expertise made it a compelling experience, one that we couldn’t put down.”
Dean Hall, Founder, RocketWerkz, said: “I’ve wanted to bring the hostile, extraterrestrial world of Icarus to console platforms for a long time, and it’s somewhat fitting - given its sci-fi setting - that Icarus: Console Edition was announced during the Galaxies showcase. We strived to make the game the ultimate survival experience, where fauna, flora, and the planet itself provided no safe haven for humanity. We look forward to welcoming Xbox and PlayStation players to the Icarus community early next year!”
Currently available for PC (Steam), Icarus is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in Q1 2026.
