'Swapmeat' Comes to Steam Early Access Later This Month, Playable Demo Available Now - Screens & Trailer

Swapmeat is a ‘totally normal’ co-op roguelite third-person shooter where you swap body parts with the alien weirdos you fight to steal their abilities.

Swapmeat is a co-op roguelite third-person shooter where you drop onto a series of increasingly challenging planets and engage in combat with the unfriendly locals, swapping body parts with the alien weirdos you defeat. Attach a wide swath of strange (and usually squishy) heads, legs and torsos to your Meat Scientist suit, gaining powerful abilities to change up your play style on the fly.

Loot defeated enemies for fresh meat to top off your HP and fine-tune your arsenal of abilities as you face down the next wave of weirdos.

In Swapmeat, players step into the boots of Meat Scientists working for the multi-galactic corporation Rangus Meats. Your mission? Raid the weirdest worlds in the cosmos, engage in exhilarating third-person combat, harvest DNA samples from the locals, and extract the planets’ meat cores. Whether solo or with a four-player co-op squad, you’ll battle alien weirdos and beefy bosses for their meaty trophies. As you loot body parts – from heads and legs to torsos – you’ll enhance your character with game-changing abilities, switching up playstyles on the fly using Rangus Meats’ patented Smart Meat technology.

Independent developer One More Game announced that Swapmeat will enter Steam Early Access for PC and macOS on October 21, 2025.

Players who purchase the game during Early Access will receive the special Founder’s Edition, offering expanded access and exclusive items before the game's full release.

The Swapmeat Founder’s Edition will be available digitally for an MSRP of $24.99 and will include two copies of the game for instant co-op access, an exclusive set of three in-game cosmetics (a Golden Spatula, “Carl's Original Golden” antenna ball and “The Alt Comedian Connor O'Malley Head”), access to the B-Sides of the game soundtrack, and the ability to preview an upcoming solar system ahead of its official release.

One More Game is offering players one last chance to play Swapmeat ahead of Early Access via a brand-new demo in Steam Next Fest. Players can download the demo for free and join the ranks of Rangus Meats to check out the delightfully deep and endlessly entertaining meat-swapping gameplay for themselves, either solo or with their squad for up to four-player co-op. Steam Next Fest also serves as the final opportunity to earn the exclusive “Quack Ops” Cosmetic Set that includes a rubber duck-themed helmet, spatula, and antenna ball, available only to those who have played the game ahead of Early Access.

The Steam Next Fest demo is the latest playable opportunity for Swapmeat, following a series of public ‘Meat Lab’ playtests driven by One More Game's Alpha-driven Development process. Through these playtests, the studio has worked closely with its community to actively address and iterate upon player feedback. This collaborative approach to game development has allowed playtesters to see their feedback implemented in real-time and directly influence the game’s evolution.

This new demo drops Meat Scientists into the game's first solar system - The Jangus System. Here, players can traverse a series of three hostile planets - Scurvion Alpha, Barbecunis, and Calypso, each teeming with absurd alien oddities to defeat for their meat. Adapt and survive as you complete Prime Directives and face random in-game events, take on the game's first mini-boss, and ultimately square off against the final boss of the first act - Franken Beans.

Brave weird new worlds solo or summon your co-op crew to face waves of escalating chaos while racing against time to complete objectives and score vital Meat Cores for ongoing Smart Meat™ experimentations. Rip, swap, and mutate mid-combat, swapping body parts on the fly for unique powers and abilities, changing your strategy instantly. Maybe you’ll live long enough to receive your employee evaluation.

Employee levels will be capped at 10 in this demo; however, players will be able to carry their progress over to the purchased game. For fresh recruits, there is a tutorial to learn the basics, while seasoned Meat Scientists can now opt to up the challenge through four escalating difficulty levels. Swapmeat features controller support, and the Next Fest demo is a quick install, as the game demo size is 2.56GB.

Key Features:

  • Swapmeat has the deep and rewarding progression you’d expect from a great roguelite. Every time you make it back to the mothership with your meat parts intact, you can upgrade your weapons, your abilities, and even yourself.
  • Play solo if you’re in the mood for a single serving, or squad up with 1-4 coworkers, err, friends — SWAPMEAT’s tuned for co-op shootin’ and lootin’! With shared upgrades, strategic teamplay, and brutal boss fights, the chain’s only as strong as its weakest (sausage) link.
  • You’re a Meat Scientist for Rangus Meats, a multi-galactic corporation dedicated to discovering the ultimate sustainable meat product to feed the universe…at least that’s what you think…
  • This ain't your daddy's third-person action shooter with roguelite elements. In SWAPMEAT, a run doesn't truly end until you take down a gargantuan Beefy Boss, a planet-spanning encounter that challenges your entire team to work together, just like a raid boss in other genres.

Swapmeat is coming to PC/macOS (Steam) in 2025.
