Players embody Abi, a survivor returning to the poisoned surface of the world to rescue her lost family and restore the wild. Discover corrupted biomes and face off against twisted creatures born from a failed society. The trailer also features an original theme song with vocals by Julie Elven (Aloy’s Theme, Horizon Zero Dawn).
As you heal the world, its original inhabitants return. The Hântu are reawakened fauna — local creatures once driven to extinction — who join the fight and expand the player’s abilities. By feeding and leveling them up, players can craft their own team and playstyle, adapting their combat strategy on every run. In the skyship base, players can grow plants using the seeds and other resources gathered while exploring to unlock permanent buffs, evolve companions, and prepare for the next descent.
Every run sends players into a dynamic open world filled with hostile enemies. Use metroidvania-style traversal boons like a glider, grappling hook, or wall-running to reach and explore new biomes. Rebuild ecosystems through action: rewild the zones, reactivate Springs and bring back life one biome at a time. But beware — each victory brings a choice. Will they restore the memory of the world that was… or let hatred reshape it into something new?
While Rewilders isn’t a complete spiritual successor to Herobeat’s debut title Endling: Extinction is Forever, players can expect echoes of Endling’s heartfelt storytelling, lovingly designed aesthetics and score within, filled with messages that last well after the credits have finished rolling. The team was heavily inspired by the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli films for conveying messages of ecological destruction, empowerment, and family while developing Rewilders. Utilizing creative audio-visual presentation and gameplay to tell evocative stories pulses through Herobeat’s development philosophy.
Herobeat Studios has revealed two ways to get a closer look at Rewilders: The Lost Spring.
The latest gameplay video shares insights into gameplay, traversal, and dangers to expect while exploring the open-world, plus a few hints at the story and characters within.
If that’s not enough, hopeful players can sign up for the first private playtest opportunity today, running from November 12th to 19th, 2025, via Steam’s Playtest feature.
In the above video, the developers elaborate on the core gameplay of their upcoming open-world roguelite, featuring Metroidvania and creature-collecting elements. Many roguelite, roguelike, and Soulsborne players will be familiar with a home base as the anchor point, where players can rest, engage with rescued creatures, and rework their approach when venturing out into the world. Rewilders features a floating airship that presents several facets to play with, from planting seeds that sprout buffs, crafting consumables and weapons, to evolving you and your companions, known as Hântu. Traversal methods, such as the Hookshot and wall run, are available and can be earned through boss fights.
Videos, as lovely as they are, only convey so much when it comes to games. From November 12th to 17th, a select number of playtesters will be invited to try Rewilders: The Lost Spring’s Grasslands Playtest. Sign-ups are open now on Steam, and once approved, playtesters will be able to access future playtests starting with the Grasslands Playtest.
More details will be shared on Steam and Discord, so we invite all potential players and playtesters to join as the game develops towards Early Access on PC in 2026.
