'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind' Update Adds New Gameplay Features, Expanded Online Multiplayer Coming Later This Spring

by Rainier on Feb. 19, 2025 @ 6:00 a.m. PST

In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind, the team faces off against a robotic reincarnation of the Power Rangers' long-time nemesis. Robo-Rita has conjured a portal to send herself back in time so she can finally vanquish the Power Rangers by forming an alliance with her younger self.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind is a fresh adventure with an original storyline that respects and remixes Power Rangers lore with scenarios and gameplay that will be both familiar and new to fans.

Players will brawl, blast, fight, and drive through a constantly shifting mix of classic game genres and fan-favorite moments from the series.

Online and offline co-op gameplay allows up to five simultaneous players to morph into their Power Ranger of choice and even pilot their powerful Zords.

A high-energy synth soundtrack keeps the adrenaline pumping as they battle a host of familiar enemies, but with some unexpected twists.

Digital Eclipse revealed that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind  is adding a ton of new gameplay features and improvements to make your Mighty Morphin adventure even more awesome, including upgradeable Rangers, “morphers” that significantly alter players’ experience, and special moves in an update coming this week, as well as a significant expansion to online multiplayer to arrive in Spring.

First up, this week, new gameplay features ensure that no two playthroughs of Rita’s Rewind will ever be the same. These updates will first be available on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Nintendo Switch players will receive the update shortly afterwards.

  • Upgradeable Rangers: Digital Eclipse is implementing a new skill point system that lets you adjust your preferred Ranger’s strength, defense, and speed. This gives each character variety while also allowing every fan to make their favorite Rangers exactly play how they want them to play.
  • Morphers: These special modifiers change up things like gravity, speed, and more. Plus, if you want to play Rita’s Rewind as it was at launch (with all Rangers being equally capable), that option is available, too. Mix and match for some seriously silly fun in your battles.
  • Power Blast: Finding yourself swamped with Robo Rita’s many minions? Use Power Blast to knock them back in exchange for a chunk of your health bar. No reward without risk, but it’ll certainly help turn the tide of chaotic battles.
  • Ground Recovery: With a properly timed button press, a hero who has been knocked back by an enemy attack can recover quickly and start attacking again, as opposed to landing on the ground and then needing to get up. This should keep the pace of those brawls at maximum speed!

Next up, in a patch coming this spring, Digital Eclipse is significantly expanding online multiplayer functionality. Previously, Rita’s Rewind supported three players on two separate consoles for a total of six online players. In this new update, six players will each be able to play on six separate machines using a peer-to-peer connection.

Digital Eclipse and publisher Atari also recently announced a standard and collectors physical edition of Rita’s Rewind on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, and are glad to confirm that all these gameplay features and improvements will be included. Those physical editions release on May 30, 2025 and you can pre-order here.

Working together, Robo-Rita and Rita Repulsa rewind, rewrite, and remix the past in an attempt to stop the very formation of the Power Rangers, altering the course of history.

Will the two Ritas and their army of monstrous enemies from across the MMPR timeline finally succeed in destroying the Power Rangers? Or will these teenagers with attitude learn to work together and counter this catastrophic chronological collaboration?

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind is available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam) at $34.99.
