'World of Warships: Legends' Reveals Upcoming Content, Comes To PC In 2026, Closed Beta Later This Month - Trailer

by Rainier on May 19, 2025 @ 9:05 a.m. PDT

World Of Warships is a free-to-play naval action MMO based on sea battles of the 20th century that complete the "World of" war trilogy.

Keeping with the best traditions of the series, World of Warships will offer a straightforward interface, easy-to-use controls, and a common economic system that will allow players to distribute resources between the three games for the ultimate progress in each of them.

The large assortment of available warships will give various tactical opportunities, as all the machines have a unique combination of firepower, speed, armor, and endurance. Various naval maps with changing weather conditions will enrich the gameplay, and the realistic graphics will transport players into the epic battles that changed the course of human history.

You will move through tiers of ships trying out various legendary vehicles in the process and training your commanders to best accommodate available sets of weaponry and hull characteristics. Choose from two types of shells, launch torpedoes and outsmart your opponents. If you like blunt force, several ships will cater to your interests as well, be it destroyers that can stealthily approach the enemies or battleships with high risk/high reward salvos, which take a long time to reload, but wreak havoc if targeted well. Cruisers are the jacks of all trades that will be appreciated by players looking for a middle ground.

When it comes to nations, World of Warships currently has 10 represented in the game. Major ones are: Japan, USA, USSR, Germany, Britain and France. There are also selected vehicles available for the Pan-Asian, Polish, Italian and Commonwealth navies. The number of ships in the game is always growing and you should be able to find something suitable to your playstyle pretty easily.

Wargaming is coming in with a boatload of content for May and June. The seas are set to become more dangerous, as World of Warships: Legends makes its first steps on Steam with a closed beta test taking place this month. In addition, the German Legendary tier battleship Preußen becomes available via a new campaign, a new Retrofuturistic event arrives, and events tied to the Battle of Jutland and the Hunt for Bismarck round out the update.

World of Warships: Legends brings fast-paced action to Steam

The popular console and mobile version of the franchise, World of Warships: Legends, is preparing to dock on Steam. Since 2019, the game has ushered in millions of players across multiple platforms, and now, the energetic battles on the high seas are making the jump to PC via Steam, with over 500 warships and more than 100 Commanders available at launch.

World of Warships: Legends on PC continues the entry’s action-packed combat, with easy-to-learn gameplay and intuitive controls. A closed beta test will be taking place from May 23 until May 26, with sign-ups now available via the official Steam store page. During this period, participants will be able to test the Versus AI, Arcade, and Standard battle types, with ship Tech Trees, Commanders, divisions, campaigns, and missions also available. Other major features, such as additional battle types, Bureau Projects, Fleets, crossplay, and more, will be introduced later in the full version.

Players are invited to share feedback on controls, performance improvements, and any potential issues that may arise during the closed beta period, to ensure Steam players get a smooth and polished experience when World of Warships: Legends launches. Plans are also underway to ensure the game is supported on Steam Deck, allowing aspiring captains to take their battles on the go.

The German battleship Preußen and new events arrive in World of Warships: Legends

As for World of Warships: Legends players on console and mobile, the May update also sees the arrival of the German Legendary Tier battleship Preußen, which will be available via a new six-week campaign. Continuing the theme of German vessels, German Legendary Tier cruiser Hindenburg continues its marathon, allowing players to continue working towards unlocking this ship.

May also sees events galore, with the Hunt for Bismarck event offering the Unsinkable Sam Commander guise as its main reward. The Battle of Jutland joins alongside, featuring new Premium ships such as German Tier IV battleship Moltke, British T

ier IV battleship Indefatigable, and German Tier VI cruiser Leipzig. Finally, the May update wraps up with brand-new Brawl and Fleet Cup seasons available for players to test their strength, and much more.

You can find the full patch notes here.

There are 7 tiers of ships in total and you begin at tier I with late XIX to early XX century cruisers. Vehicle tiers can be separated in two distinct timelines - tiers I-IV belong to the "dreadnought era", while everything from tier V and above is grouping the WWII ships.  After playing several battles with them and getting acquainted with controls and basic mechanics, you'll move over to tier II cruisers, that are faster, better armed, more sturdy and have a choice of armament (high-explosive or armor-piercing shells). From there you'll be able to branch out into the destroyers which are all about stealth and high risk-high reward gameplay. Tier III will allow you to try out the battleships which bring huge salvos and armor, yet lack in maneuverability.

Maps are square with sizes range from 24x24 km to 18X18 km. Smaller maps are usually reserved for lower tiers, bigger - for higher. The maps are quite different both in size and island distribution. You will see all kinds of landscapes: from the icebergs of Arctic to the tropics of southeast Asia.

Currently available on Android, iOS, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, World of Warships: Legends is coming to PC (Steam) in 2026.
