'Dune: Awakening' Reveals Mid-to-Endgame Content, Shows Off Hagga Basin, Landsraad Feature And More - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on May 28, 2025 @ 11:44 a.m. PDT

Dune: Awakening is an open world survival MMO where you rise from survival to dominance in a vast and seamless Arrakis shared by thousands of players.

Dune: Awakening is set on Arrakis and takes inspiration from both Frank Herbert’s novels and Denis Villeneuve’s Academy Award-winning film while exploring exciting new possibilities in the franchise.

Dune: Awakening combines the grittiness and creativity of survival games with the social interactivity of large-scale, persistent multiplayer games to create a unique and ambitious Open World Survival MMO. Rise from survival to dominance in a vast and seamless Arrakis shared by thousands of players.

Head into unmapped sectors and be the first to discover secrets and riches before the coriolis storms once again shift the sands and alter the landscape. Narrowly escape colossal sandworms, build your home from shelter to mighty base, and traverse the dunes in iconic vehicles from the universe.

Hunt for spice blooms and deploy your harvester, then protect it from rival factions in fast-paced, deadly combat that shifts seamlessly from armored groundcars to ornithopters in the sky. Plot your rise to power and build your influence within the Landsraad through careful intrigue.

Since the early ‘90s, Funcom has honed its craft creating unforgettable experiences in existing IPs and persistent online worlds with games like Anarchy Online, Age of Conan, The Secret World, and Conan Exiles. Now, Funcom sets its eyes on Arrakis, for its most ambitious project yet.

With only a few days to go before Dune: Awakening’s June 5th head start begins ahead of the full launch on June 10th, developer Funcom has released a sneak peek at what players can expect beyond what was playable in the recent large-scale Beta.

The livestream gave a glimpse of Dune: Awakening’s mid-to-endgame. Playing the game live, Funcom took viewers on a tour of the wider Hagga Basin (of which players only saw about 25% in the Beta Weekend), to emphasize the size and variety players can expect. The lush O’odham, the forbidding Hagga Rift, the tall spires and imposing rock-formations of Jabal Eifrit, to name just a few.

As players explore these huge and diverse landscapes, they will continue uncovering the mysteries of Dune: Awakening’s thrilling story, which they also got a taste of in the Beta.

Before even considering the vast dunes and dangers of the Deep Desert, players will experience a full-scale survival game. They will rise through the ranks of the Atreides or Harkonnen; build powerful strongholds; brave Imperial Testing Stations; craft advanced schematics; explore and harvest in a variety of vehicles, and much, much more.

The Landsraad feature allows anyone to contribute in the effort to impact their entire faction.

Your goal and that of your guild is to secure their votes so that your faction – the Harkonnen or Atreides – can take control of the Landsraad. You can work alone, with friends, or even attempt coordinating across multiple guilds to secure these votes by completing specific house requirements.

Whether you prefer PvE or PvP, there are a multitude of activities to participate in that will benefit not just your faction, but also you personally as fulfilling house requirements also unlocks special rewards.

The Schools of the Imperium are a major source of power, offering skills from Orders like the Mentats, Bene Gesserit, or Swordmasters. Combined with the wide arsenal of weapons, armors, tech, vehicles, and Holzman shields from the Dune universe, the sandbox combat offers huge freedom. As you rise in power and unlock advanced skills from various schools, you can discover new combinations and synergies. See in action in Sandbox Combat – The Forms of Power.

The exact launch times across the world have been revealed. The head start, available with any Deluxe or Ultimate Edition purchase, begins on June 5, with full launch on June 10. Regardless of when players get access, everyone can pre-load Dune: Awakening on Steam on June 4.

The spice will flow.
