'Hades II' Early Access Update Expands Core Combat, Guardian Encounters, Character Relationships And More - Trailer

by Rainier on June 17, 2025 @ 12:12 p.m. PDT

Hades II is a rogue-like dungeon crawler in which you'll battle beyond the Underworld of Greek myth using dark sorcery to take on the sinister Titan of Time.

In Hades II, you'll battle beyond the Underworld using dark sorcery as you take on the sinister Titan of Time in an all-new, action-packed, endlessly replayable experience rooted in the Underworld of Greek myth and its deep connections to the dawn of witchcraft.

Hades II builds on the best aspects of the original god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler in an all-new, action-packed, endlessly replayable experience rooted in the Underworld of Greek myth and its deep connections to the dawn of witchcraft.

As Melinoë, the immortal Princess of the Underworld, you'll explore a bigger, deeper mythic world, vanquishing the Titan's forces with the full might of Olympus behind you, in a sweeping story that continually unfolds through your every setback and accomplishment. New locations, challenges, upgrade systems, and surprises await as you delve into the ever-shifting Underworld again and again.

Like her brother Zagreus from the original game, Melinoë is not a character of our own invention, and is based on an ancient Underworld deity thought to be related to Hades. What little ancient mythology exists about her was more than enough to make us want to explore her story and connection to her family, and in so doing, expand on our vision of the Underworld!

Hades II just got its third Major Early Access (Steam / Epic Games Store) Update! It expands core combat, Guardian encounters, and the story, with lots of new visual flair!

With The Unseen Update, expect Hades II to be bigger and better than before:

  • Discover the Hidden Aspects of the Nocturnal Arms! Each main weapon has an all-new new fighting style to unlock.
  • Speak the Vow of Rivals at the Oath of the Unseen to take on stronger-than-ever Guardians, each with unique surprises!
  • Unleash Godsent Hexes on your foes, dazzling Moon magick upgraded with the power of the Olympians.
  • Forge Bonds with a variety of characters in many new optional story events that bring you closer than before.
  • Harness the revamped Umbral Flames, now offering a snappier fighting style for keeping your foes at bay.

This update also features lots of new artwork and visual flourishes, exciting new music tracks such as the one in our new trailer, new Warden encounters, many new story events, and more. We're excited to hear what you think of it all!

How to Get the Update

The Unseen Update is a free, automatic download as part of the Early Access development of Hades II.

Development Progress

After more than a year of Early Access development, we're now starting to prepare for our v1.0 launch! We're heading into the final phase of Hades II development, which involves adding the story's true ending and other finishing touches. Please note we do not yet have a v1.0 launch date, though we'll share more as soon as we can. We really appreciate your patience on this!

In terms of what we're working on, after any follow-up patches to The Unseen Update that smooth out any issues, we'll focus on these major initiatives:

  • The True Ending: The conclusion of Princess Melinoë's story is the main addition we're planning for our v1.0 launch. We have no plans for additional regions, encounters, abilities, and so on.
  • Achievements: With the game structure fully intact, we'll be adding Achievements in the lead-up to launch. Note you will not need to start from the beginning to earn any Achievements.
  • Finishing Touches: We're continuing to polish and refine all the content we've introduced in Hades II, from Boons and powers to artwork and story events.

Sometimes the last stretch of development on a game can make all the difference, so we have always taken this phase seriously and appreciate your continued support.

Onward to v1.0!

As we wind down our Early Access phase, our goal remains ensuring we've created our biggest, most replayable, most feature-rich game yet, and — most importantly — a worthy successor to the original Hades.

We have a big game to wrap up! While we can't yet say when our v1.0 launch will be, we're very excited to be getting close, and to share the complete experience with you. This also means some of the most important work on Hades II is still to come, so may moonlight guide us! And to all our Early Access players, thank you for being here, and sharing your impressions of The Unseen Update with us.
