'Hearthstone' The Lost City of Un’Goro Expansion Due In July, Adds 145 Cards, New Keyword. New/Revamped Arenas And More - Trailer

by Rainier on June 2, 2025 @ 6:46 p.m. PDT

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a free-to-play strategy card game where players build card decks centered around one of nine iconic Warcraft character classes and duel each other for fun, glory, and the chance to win awesome new cards.

Deceptively simple in design but epically engaging, Hearthstone will be instantly accessible to players regardless of their familiarity with Warcraft or collectible card games. Whether players prefer to wield magic or arms in battle, strike from the shadows or head on—or have never given any of that much thought—they’ll be able to jump right in, create a deck, and get in on the card-slinging action.

In addition to honing their skills in practice matches against the computer and taking on their buddies via their Battle.net friends list, players can challenge each other in two competitive game modes. “Play Mode” features traditional head-to-head battles, with players facing off for a chance to increase their medal ranking and earn card packs along the way. And for a different type of challenge, players can enter “The Forge,” where they start each match by building a deck from a new set of cards, and then use that deck to duel other Forge participants. Aside from winning new cards, players will be able to round out their collections by purchasing new card packs or disenchanting some of their existing cards to craft the ones they’re missing.

With hundreds of cards to choose from, featuring a wide range of colorful Warcraft spells, weapons, and characters, players will have limitless possibilities for developing and fine-tuning their deck-building strategies.

Battlegrounds is a game mode where eight players face off in 1v1 rounds, with the goal to be the last player standing. Each round consists of two phases. The Recruit Phase lets players purchase and sell minions, upgrade the tavern, use their hero power, and rearrange their minions' attack order. Combat Phase has minions automatically attacking the opponents' until one player (or both) has no minions remaining, at which point the victor attacks the loser.

GRAB A MAP!

Legend tells of a Lost City, hidden in Un’Goro Crater. Loh, the great Tortollan explorer, has chartered an expedition to uncover its secrets—but he doesn’t know that Umbra has secrets of her own. (Sound familiar? Hearthstone first visited the Un’Goro Crater in the expansion Journey to Un’Goro, back in April of 2017!)

It turns out Un’Goro Crater is more than just a big bowl of deadly dinosaurs. Legend tells of a Lost City hidden in its depths, and it’s up to the great Tortollan explorer Loh to assemble a team of experts and find it! Between ancient Maps, perilous Quests, and Kindred spirits, Loh is going to have one shell of a Story to tell.

The Lost City of Un’Goro expansion will come with 145 brand-new cards, including new Story and Map cards, a new Kindred keyword, and a returning Quest keyword, arriving on July 8!

DETAILS OF THE EXPEDITION

  • New Keyword: Kindred - Primal energy courses through Un’Goro Crater, infusing cards with bursts of power. By studying the area, we have found a way to predict these surges: cards with the Kindred keyword get a bonus effect if you played a card of the same minion type or spell school on your previous turn. Plan ahead to take advantage of their power.
  • Returning Keyword: Quest - Quests are 1-cost spells that start in your opening hand. Complete the Quest’s requirements throughout the game to get a powerful reward. Each class gets a new Legendary Quest card in The Lost City of Un’Goro.
  • New Story and Map Cards - Stories are how the Tortollan people pass on knowledge of the Crater to their next generation. Each story card tells a tale about the last time adventurers entered Un’Goro Crater. A good map is crucial for exploration. Map cards let you Discover a card and then, if you play your chosen card that turn, get another one of the options too. There are seven Stories and six Maps in The Lost City of Un’Goro.
  • Plus Some Familiar Faces - Loh has gathered a team of adventurers to help him on his expedition, including a couple familiar faces: Elise Starseeker, the famous explorer, is the team’s navigator; and Umbra, the former leader of the Tortollans, is the team’s guide.
  • How to Get the Set - We’re offering three pre-purchase bundles this expansion: our usual Pre-Purchase Bundle and Mega Bundle options, plus the Sequence Bundle (unlocked after getting the other two pre-purchase bundles). The Lost City of Un’Goro Mega Bundle includes 80 Lost City of Un’Goro Packs, 10 Golden Lost City of Un’Goro Packs, 1 Random Signature The Lost City of Un'Goro Legendary Card, 1 Random Golden Lost City of Un’Goro Legendary Card, 4 Tavern Tickets, and the Spiritsinger Umbra Card Back and Warlock Hero Skin.  The Sequence Bundle offers the best value for players who want the most packs possible at launch.

A NEW ARENA AWAITS - The Hearthstone Arena is undergoing a significant revamp with the introduction of two new versions: The Arena and The Underground. The Arena offers a revamped drafting experience and is designed for newer players, while The Underground presents a challenging environment for veterans, featuring longer runs and greater rewards. The Arena is a beginner-friendly mode with skill-based matchmaking, while The Underground allows players of all skill levels to compete, enhancing the competitive aspect. Players can unlock The Underground after winning seven games in The Arena.

Hearthstone is available for Android, iOS and PC.
