Apex Legends delivers a squad-based battle royale experience with a uniquely Respawn flavor. Players will select from one of eight Legends - each with their own unique abilities and playstyles - and the last team standing wins. Combatants can choose from unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker who can see recent enemy activity on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield medic who can shield teammates and bring them back from the brink of death. Balanced squads and teamwork are critical, as each Legend is easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.
Apex Legends showcases several new genre-leading innovations, starting before players even start the match. Once players are ready to begin, they’ll choose their drop point with the Jumpmaster system, giving each squad full control over exactly where they drop in. Is it smarter to head straight for the most valuable loot and risk early conflict with other teams, or make for one of the outlying areas to plot an attack and let other squads pick each other off?
Attention, Legends! It may be summer in the Outlands, but class is still in session.
The mid-season of Apex Legends: Prodigy brings with it the Future Icons Event, running from June 24-July 15, 2025. Players can take on a new variant of a favorite, Arenas: Duels, featuring 1v1s with no abilities, no heals and no excuses. Players can dress sharp with all new Legendary Legend Skins, Epic Weapon skins and Wattson's "Apex Icon" Prestige Skin with matching Dive Trail. Speaking of scholarly Wattson, she's recharged for split two with buffs worthy of her power: faster fence building, electrifying doors and slowing enemies (including a particularly pesky prodigy). Echo's mom receives some love too-Vantage mains rejoice!
Time to target greatness and rise to the challenge.
Legends will test their mettle in a new limited-time Arenas variant: Duels. Chain 1v1 duels throughout a 5-minute match on a server of 30 players while a leaderboard tracks their performance. Each Duel, loadout, and spawn location are randomized, pushing players to improvise and make the best of the moment on even ground. Legends are also randomized, but their abilities will be turned off at first, making the experience more focused on core gun skills and movement. Both player’s weapons and Legends will be mirrored to even the playing field. This is Arenas: Duels at its purest. Also a great way to warm-up for those looking to get back into the swing before jumping into their primary modes. Later this split, Legend abilities will be turned on for a new and exciting twist on the Arenas: Duels experience.
We'll see who the real Legends of leaderboards are—unless players opt to hide it for some more casual vibes.
Fresh new limited-time cosmetics are up for grabs as players progress through the Future Icons Event. Each item received during the event counts towards bonus rewards that are automatically unlocked at milestones along the way. Legendary skins for Rampart, Octane, and the Peacekeeper will be available in Future Icons Event Packs' for the duration of the event, with each pack having a chance to unlock Wattson's Prestige skin, "Apex Icon," complete with matching Dive Trail. Each event pack contains one event item and two standard items, and there are no duplicates of event items in these packs.
S25.1 Meta Updates
Wattson Updates
Dev Notes: We're really excited to see the new Electrified Door mechanic added to the game, making it so enemies need to respect the fences that much more. In addition, Wattson's reduced Tac cooldown should make setting up fences way snappier and will make it less punishing if you have to move on.

Vantage Updates
Dev Notes: Vantage's Tactical improvements make her feel smoother and we've been having lots of fun playing with the new version of Echo internally. Being able to peek with her Ult without the Laser and to upgrade into Gun Shield will hopefully make lining up shots in those late-game scenarios less risky.

Ash Updates
Dev Notes: We want to re-balance Ash this season by tamping down some of the parts of her kit that are frustrating to play against, while preserving the fun of dashing around the battlefield. Lowering the base cooldown of her dash will hopefully offset losing double-dash. In addition, swapping her level 2 and level 3 upgrades will bring her double Ult charge upgrade to earlier in the match, keeping you and your team mobile.
- Changes:
- Passive: decreased dash cooldown to 8s (was 10s)
- Tactical: slightly decreased tether strength when pulling hard (like when using movement abilities)
- Upgrades: Level 2

If you encounter this prompt, please continue to send your reports as additional data will assist with investigations.
- Changes:
- De-prioritized friendly zip-lines so enemies will always be played
- De-prioritized non-threatening enemy footsteps (bodyfall and downed) to ensure potential threats are always played
- Experimenting with lowered volume/inaudible friendly footsteps when under significant threat—let us know if this is helpful!
- Reduced volume of Hovertanks in Kings Canyon
Ranked
Dev Notes: We have been taking in all of the feedback for Rank Tier Display, and as a result we’re making a change during this split to try and improve clarity at a glance. We've seen some players note a very large Rank Tier difference that is actually a result of premade squads and is not reflective of how matchmaking actually works. Matchmaking actually works by taking the highest Rank Tier of the premade members and placing them in those lobbies. Now that the Rank Tier display reflects how the matchmaking system actually works, we hope it addresses some of the concerns about the quality of matches and improves clarity for the graph.
- The Rank Tier Display will now show the tier distribution per squad instead of per individual player. Ranked matchmaking for premade squads is done based on the highest RP value in the squad. This change will group all squad members, premade or otherwise, to show the entire squad based on the highest Rank Tier in that squad.
- The Ladder Champion Dive Trail will be granted to all players that completed the Ladder Champion placement Challenge in Split 1. The Dive Trail will be accessible for all of this Split. If players wish to retain access to the Dive Trail, they must complete the same Challenge in this current Split.

All together it creates a battle royale experience unlike any other, complete with Respawn’s commitment to top-notch quality and fun.
