'Destiny 2' The Edge of Fate Expansion Reveals New Destination Kepler, Armor Changes, Buildcrafting And More - Trailer

by Rainier on June 24, 2025 @ 2:45 p.m. PDT

Destiny 2 is a first-person action game that takes the player on an epic journey to defend humanity from annihilation.

Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion. He has stripped the city’s Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee. You will venture to mysterious, unexplored worlds of our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home.

In Destiny 2, the last safe city on Earth has fallen and lay in ruins, occupied by a powerful new enemy and his elite army, the Red Legion. Every player creates their own character called a "Guardian," humanity's chosen protectors. As a Guardian in Destiny 2, players must master new abilities and weapons to reunite the city's forces, stand together and fight back to reclaim their home.

Destiny 2 developers hosted a livestream where they discussed in detail upcoming core game changes coming alongside The Edge of Fate expansion on July 15. The team discussed buildcrafting with details on Armor 3.0, gear tiering, focused gear and artifact mods, and new weapon systems coming alongside the new expansion, which will be available to all players.

The above developer insight video showcased the mysteries of Kepler, where the team talked more about the new dungeon-like location Guardians will explore with new destination-specific abilities in The Edge of Fate

The next chapter of its evolving universe is Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, which sets the stage for a new saga: the Fate Saga. The Edge of Fate expansion invites players to uncover one of Destiny 2’s biggest mysteries, and the Nine will play a central role in this storyline. The Year of Prophecy begins with Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate on July 15, leaving Guardians to ask, “Are we bound by fate?”

When The Edge of Fate releases on July 15, players will be reintroduced to the Nine, powerful and mysterious beings who existed long before the Traveler, and face a new threat that predates everything Guardians know about Sol. Two major characters will step into the spotlight: Lodi, a new ally from a distant place, and the legendary Warlock Vanguard Ikora. The Edge of Fate will propel Guardians into a multiyear saga that will unfold across multiple expansions.

The expansion will take place on Kepler, a new destination inspired by the puzzle-solving and pathfinding challenges of Destiny 2’s dungeons and destination design, which encourages deep exploration, mystery, and player-driven discovery. New enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities await those brave enough to dive into its secrets.

A key feature of Kepler is the abundant dark matter energy, which powers the abilities available to the Guardian while exploring the destination. The new Matterspark ability allows Guardians to bind to dark matter to change forms, enabling them to squeeze through tight spaces, jump and dash across terrain, and become a rolling force of destruction. Additional abilities include the new Relocator Cannon, which uses Fallen dark matter tech to teleport players across the environment, and Mattermorph, which lets Guardians manipulate their surroundings using the combined forces of dark matter and Strand.

Destiny 2 is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
