'Pokémon Champions' Comes to Nintendo Switch/2 And Mobile In 2026, Details Trial/Permanent Recruitment And Battle Modes - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on July 22, 2025 @ 11:48 a.m. PDT

Pokémon Champions continues the tradition of Trainers pitting their skills against those of others from around the world, with the aim of allowing core game-style battles to be enjoyed by more players than ever before.

Get ready to experience everything you love about Pokémon battles all in one place—in Pokémon Champions.

Pokémon Champions is a battle-focused game will feature familiar mechanics such as Pokémon types, Abilities, and moves, creating an environment conducive to rich and varied strategies for new and experienced Trainers alike.

It’s not just familiar mechanics—you’ll be able to bring in classic Pokémon from Pokémon HOME, the cloud service for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, allowing Trainers to team up with Pokémon brought over from previous Pokémon games in addition to those they partner with in Pokémon Champions.

Look forward to cross-platform battles alongside your favorite Pokémon on Nintendo Switch and mobile, with a variety of different modes available for your desired experience.

In Pokémon Champions, Trainers can recruit Pokémon to join their teams and battle other Trainers. Trial Recruitment allows Pokémon to join the player’s team for a limited time—letting them try out a Pokémon in battle straight away and test strategies[1]. Permanent Recruitment uses Victory Points (VP)—which are gained from various methods such as Ranked Battles—to add Pokémon to the player’s team permanently. Players can also use VP to train Pokémon according to their own preferences, including altering their stats and Abilities.[2]

There are three different battle modes available in Pokémon Champions, which can be played in both Single Battle and Double Battle formats.

  • Ranked Battles: Players can test their skills against other Trainers from all over the world. Trainers are divided into tiers based on their skill level.
  • Casual Battles: Trainers can test how their teams perform against Pokémon Trainers from around the world in a relaxed environment.
  • Private Battles: Players can battle against friends or family in the same in-game room.
[1] Trial Recruitment can be carried out once per day without using Victory Points (VP). [2] Players cannot train Pokémon during their Trial Recruitment period.

Pokémon Champions is coming to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and mobile (Android/iOS) in 2026.
