'Frostpunk 2' Comes To PS5 And Xbox Series X|S In September, Gets Physical Editions - Trailer

In Frostpunk 2 you are once again tasked with playing as the leader of a resource-hungry metropolis where the expansion and search for new sources of power is an unavoidable reality.

Thirty years have passed since the vicious storm that concluded the first chapter of humankind's survival story in Frostpunk, Earth is still overwhelmed by the neverending frost and harsh, icy climate. But the apocalyptic world has moved on. After the age of coal, conquering Frostland for the oil extraction industry is expected to be the new salvation of what’s left of humanity.

The City, settled around the Generator and its life-giving warmth, grew and progressed as the years ticked on. Years of whiteouts have changed the world, giving it a clean slate with which to write a new post-apocalyptic part of its story. Despite the noose of oppression again starting to tighten on a society that is struggling for life-preserving supplies—and increasingly bothered by inner squabbles after recent events—the world is once again facing an era of possibly prolific expansion.

Most notably, however, people changed. And once they feel like they’ve tamed the frost, and the bonding survival instinct has faded, their human nature will come into play, driven by ambition that could spiral The City into the fall.

However, change does not come easily, and not everyone in this new multi-layered society will welcome this new direction.

Hope rises, New Londoners.

11 bit studios is proud to announce that Frostpunk 2 will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 18th, 2025.

And there’s more warmth in the air - to ensure every citizen their lawfully given access to goods, the game is launching with physical editions, carefully overseen in collaboration with Skybound Games on both consoles.

Additionally, Frostpunk 2 will be available on Xbox Game Pass for consoles on day one.

Drawing from lessons learned during the original Frostpunk’s console port, the development team has further refined the circular, easily navigable interface. The port allows players to guide the politics and people of New London with the palms of their hands, on controller and thumbsticks alike.

“Initially, we tried to carry over as many interface solutions as possible,” reflects Igor Skibinski, Production Coordinator at the Frostpunk 2 team. “But the two games differ so much in terms of gameplay that we had to adapt and rework those systems over time. Still, our main focus was to make interaction with the game feel seamless - so players never have to think about how to play while they’re playing. Our ambition is to once again prove that even complex strategy games can feel intuitive and satisfying on consoles.”

Several improvements help tailor the control scheme for gamepads and provide quick access to vital actions. Players can use bumper buttons to cycle between districts of the same type, or a dynamic radial menu that appears over resource piles and presents actions specific to them. Additionally, following the console release, the PC version of Frostpunk 2 will receive an update enabling players to use this new UI scheme whenever a gamepad is connected.

The collaboration between 11 bit studios and Skybound Games continues a joint course across the Frostlands, culminating in two premium physical editions, releasing alongside the digital version on September 18th. The Icebreaker Edition and Whiteout Edition deliver collectible tributes worthy of New London’s archives.

The Icebreaker Edition includes the full game on disc, a meticulously crafted pop-up diorama of New London, the chilling digital novella Warm Flesh, and a behind-the-scenes digital artbook chronicling the creation of this unforgiving world.

The Whiteout Edition elevates the offering further, housing all Icebreaker contents within a multi-layered shadow box featuring integrated LED lighting and iconic key art. It also includes a Deluxe Edition upgrade, granting access to the three upcoming DLCs, alongside physical keepsakes: a deluxe metal-and-enamel keychain, two premium New London art postcards, Frostpunk-themed stickers, and one of two possible embroidered faction patches - either the disciplined Technocrats or the fervent Icebloods.

A true collector’s tribute to survival, sacrifice, and the City that must not fall.

Currently available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG) and PC Game Pass, Frostpunk 2 is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 18, 2025.
