'Control' Reaches 5 Million Sales, FBC: Firebreak Reaches One Million But Disappoints

Control (formerly known as P7) is a third-person action-adventure game combining Remedy’s trademark gunplay with supernatural abilities.

Control is set in a unique and ever-changing world that juxtaposes our familiar reality with the strange and explainable.

Welcome to the Federal Bureau of Control

After a secretive agency in New York is invaded by an otherworldly threat, players will take on the role of Jesse Faden, the new Director struggling to regain Control. This sandbox-style, gameplay-driven experience built on the proprietary Northlight engine challenges players to master a combination of supernatural abilities, modifiable loadouts and reactive environments while fighting through the deep and mysterious worlds Remedy is known and loved for.

Remedy Entertainment announced that Control’s lifetime sales exceeded 5 million copies during the second quarter.

Control’s publishing, distribution and marketing rights were transferred to Remedy in the first quarter of 2025.

"We’ve now been able to drive Control’s sales activities fully by ourselves and have seen positive development through our sales activities."

Remedy’s first multiplayer game FBC: Firebreak launched on the 17th of June. The launch succeeded technically, reaching over 1 million players in its first 10 days. Majority of the players were Xbox Series X|S and PS5 users.

On Steam, which was planned as the primary consumer sales channel on PC, the launch underperformed. The game’s initial onboarding experience and mission structure resulted in high early player drop-offs and an influx of negative reviews. As players spent more time in the game and we released updates improving the game, sentiment in reviews turned more positive.

Commercially, we were unsatisfied with the launch-phase consumer sales of FBC: Firebreak. Thus far, FBC: Firebreak’s commercial performance has largely been driven by the Xbox and PlayStation subscription service agreements. A considerable portion of the revenues from these agreements will still be recognized throughout the contract period.

FBC: Firebreak was designed as a game that evolves over time. Despite the rocky launch, we believe we have a solid game to build on. Players who spent over an hour with the game reviewed the game mostly positive – showing us that the core experience of the game is entertaining. We have already rolled out patches and communicated on how the game will continue to develop. Looking ahead, a larger “Major Update” late September will be the next key step for FBC: Firebreak. This will be supported by targeted marketing activities, which we expect to drive interest in the title. We are committed to continuing to work on FBC: Firebreak, engaging with the community, and expanding the game.

Award-winning composer Martin Stig Andersen (INSIDE, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus) and BAFTA-nominated composer Petri Alanko (Alan Wake, Quantum Break) are creating the score for supernatural action-adventure game Control.

Combining Andersen’s experience with creating eerie compositions with Alanko’s unique blend of orchestral and electronic arrangements, the renowned duo is joining forces to form an otherworldly soundscape for Control’s mysterious world. Control’s score is being carefully crafted to back an ever-changing world that juxtaposes reality with the unexplainable. Andersen and Alanko’s scores will mirror Control’s dynamic gameplay elements by evolving around the game’s moments of stirring surrealism and fierce action.

Key Features:

  • WORLD WITHIN A LOCATION: Explore diverse environments and shifting architecture in a deep unpredictable world, set within a sprawling New York building.
  • FLEXIBLE AND SUPERNATURAL COMBAT SYSTEM: Define your playstyle by integrating supernatural abilities, upgrades, and modifiable loadouts.
  • REACTIVE ENVIRONMENTS: Harness dynamic environmental destruction for exciting combat possibilities and master complex rituals to alter your surroundings.
  • REALITY MEETS THE UNEXPLAINABLE: Dive into a dark and brutalist-inspired world where daily reality has been corrupted by an otherworldly force.

Control is available on Nintendo Switch (Cloud version), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox SerieS X|S and PC.
