'Hardspace: Shipbreaker' IP Rights Revert Back To Original Creator Blackbird Interactive, Multiple Projects In Development

by Rainier on Aug. 14, 2025 @ 11:04 a.m. PDT

Hardspace: Shipbreaker is a new sandbox space sim where you, as a salvager armed with cutting-edge tech, will carve up massive spaceships piece by piece in zero G for cold hard loot.

Across your career, you’ll have the privilege of paying your debt to us by purchasing salvaging rights to increasingly large and valuable ships. Cut them open and extract as much value as possible!

You are equipped with the latest in LYNX tech. Carve entry points, salvage valuable materials and components with your cutting tool or slice scrap metal at any angle into a million pieces as you ponder a lonely existence… the possibilities are endless! Be cautious – dying is extremely unprofitable.

We strongly advise upgrading your tools, helmet and suit to take on more lucrative contracts - all you need to worry about is how you’ll pay for it!

As of today, your debt amounts to:
999,999,999 Credits

Good luck on the job, cutter!

Blackbird Interactive (BBI) is thrilled to announce that it has reacquired full intellectual property rights to Hardspace: Shipbreaker from its publishing partner, Focus Entertainment.

Since becoming a critical and commercial success after its Early Access release in 2020, Hardspace: Shipbreaker’s evocative mix of richly-simulated salvaging gameplay and industrial sci-fi worldbuilding will now become a core part of BBI’s original IP strategy.

Hardspace: Shipbreaker was brought to market in partnership with Focus Entertainment, who had also acquired partial ownership of the IP. This new agreement sees BBI once again becoming sole owner of the Hardspace: Shipbreaker IP.

Though BBI is not ready to share any specifics, it can confirm that multiple Hardspace projects are currently in development. Fans can expect the studio’s trademark mix of evocative worldbuilding, immersive, physics-driven gameplay, and boundary-pushing design to continue driving the franchise forward.

“It is rare to have an IP that resonates so deeply with millions of players,” said Rory McGuire, President and Chief Creative Officer at Blackbird Interactive. “So we are honored to have this opportunity to deepen and expand that connection through new games that explore the Hardspace universe. Shipbreaker also wouldn’t be what it is today without our friends at Focus Entertainment. We are eternally grateful for their partnership and hope to work with them again soon.”

Key Features:

  • Experience daily life as a blue-collar spaceship salvager
  • Cut and destroy at will within a next-generation physics simulation
  • Upgrade tools and unlock new perks to take on harder contracts

Hardspace: Shipbreaker is available for PC (Steam/Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
