The world hangs in the balance as the evil Magatsu threatens the land with just the young priestess Towa and her eight companions standing in his way.

Towa And The Guardians Of The Sacred Tree features engaging game play with fast-paced action, gorgeous hand-drawn style characters, stunning painterly scenery, and a unique soundtrack by legendary composer Hitoshi Sakimoto. These come together to create a colorful world where visually peaceful splendor belies a lurking threat, and where courage is the only way forward.  Set in distant lands, the tranquil Shinju village is threatened by the evil Magatsu’s quest for domination. Towa, the priestess of Shinju Village, stands united with eight unique, trustworthy companions to defeat Magatsu and his evil minions. 

Players choose two Guardians to venture on each quest - one guardian wields the power of the sacred sword called Tsurugi and the other is the bearer of the magical staff Kagura. Each guardian has unique skillsets that can be unlocked and upgraded both inside the dungeons and through a meta-progression in the hub world of Shinju Village. Beyond each Guardian’s abilities, players can find various crafting materials to forge and upgrade their swords, making each combat style and guardian pair unique. As the guardians pursue their quests across different timelines, the village will evolve over the years.

Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. is offering a chance to try the exciting swordplay and experience firsthand the memorable world and characters in the 2D isometric roguelite Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree, releasing a free demo available starting today. The demo takes players on the first steps of the journey into this visually stylistic and vibrant world, letting them experience the prologue chapter with four of the game’s eight Guardians available to play. Players take on the role of Rekka, Shigin, Origami, and Nishikito to take on the evil Mogatsu and his minions, the Magaori. In the demo, they will also visit the game’s hub, Shinju Village, where friendly and memorable NPCs will help them in their quest, whether to strengthen swords at the Blacksmith, practice their combat skills at the Dojo, or learn more about the deep history and narrative of Towa’s world.

Also released today, a new Guardian trailer showcases a key moment in the game’s storyline. With their world at stake, those who defend it are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. Bampuku and Mutsumi, the brother and sister Shiba Inus who have sworn to protect Shinju Village and restore life to the Sacred Tree at all costs, show to what extreme ends that sacrifice can take them.

Players develop unique bonds with residents and learn more about their customs and stories that are woven into the inner workings of the village. Ultimately, they must fight together through these colorful lands, conquer dungeons, and defeat Magatsu’s minions to restore peace to the land.

Towa And The Guardians Of The Sacred Tree is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) on September 19, 2025.
