'Age Of Empires IV' Anniversary Edition Coming To PS5 In November, Coincides With Dynasties of the East DLC Launch - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 19, 2025 @ 11:49 p.m. PDT

It's time to battle through history once more in the latest entry of the landmark Age Of Empires franchise.

Age of Empires IV features two new launch civilizations, a newly revealed campaign, naval combat, and Joan of Arc.

The teams at both Relic and World's Edge have shared that players will have the choice of the English, Mongols, Chinese and Delhi Sultanate at launch, and two more civilizations have been revealed: the Abbasid Dynasty and the French.

The Abbasid Dynasty's focus on technology, powered by their unique landmark, the House of Wisdom, will allow players to choose unique upgrade opportunities. Their unique units include Camel Archers and Riders.

The French were revealed alongside the 100 Years War campaign, allowing players to place themselves in the battles fought between the English and French in the 14th and 15th centuries. The French thrive in trade, with the Chamber of Commerce and Royal Institute landmarks helping strengthen a player's late game. Royal Knights are one of the civilization's special units with a fearsome charge ability.

Making a heroic appearance in the trailer is French heroine and icon Joan of Arc. Teenage Joan rallied her country and led armies into battle against the occupying English.

Taking the battle to the water adds a whole new dimension to player strategy and adds new meaning to "sink or swim"!

With updated controls, intuitive UI and a fresh approach to the campaign, Age of Empires IV is the most accessible Age of Empires game yet while taking everything fans love about the franchise to the next level.

World’s Edge announced the Age of Empires franchise will once again be landing new frontiers with the launch of Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition onto PlayStation 5 on November 4, 2025.

In its ongoing quest to bring the joy of the Age franchise to even more platforms, the PS5 launch will also arrive alongside brand new DLC: Dynasties of the East, available for players on all platforms at the same time.

4 New Variant Civilizations

Dynasties of the East is a bold new expansion for Age of Empires IV, introducing four variant civilizations, each with unique units, tech trees, and new strategies. Command the powerful Golden Horde, the ambitious Macedonian Dynasty, the tactical Sengoku Daimyo, and the versatile Tughlaq Dynasty—each offering new ways to master the battlefield.

  • The Golden Horde (Mongols Variant) – Ditch nomadic complexity for a powerful centralized force led by a combat-hardened Khan and his elite guard. Build multiple Ovoos, amass large armies and make critical strategic decisions from the seat of the Khan, the Golden Tent. Gather your forces and prepare for a glorious charge into battle.
  • The Macedonian Dynasty (Byzantines Variant) – Command a force of powerful and foreign-born warriors known as the Varangians and charge into battle as the Macedonian Dynasty. Ruled by Emperor Basil II at the height of its power, this variant civilization brings with it unique resources and technologies focused on rapid growth and conquest. Fortified by a rich economy, the Macedonian Dynasty produces and trades in Silver to strengthen their forces.
  • Sengoku Daimyo (Japanese Variant) – Rewrite your clan’s destiny in the fractured Sengoku era. Pledge allegiance to rival banners—Takeda, Oda, or Hojo—each offering distinct bonuses, units, and technologies. Customize your civilization’s progression by dedicating Daimyo Estates to fuel factional power and strategic depth.
  • The Tughlaq Dynasty (Delhi Sultanate Variant) – Take charge of this large and long-reigning dynasty built through astute political rule. Appoint powerful governors who bring their own adept craft to the table with the brand-new Governorship system.  Varied in battlefield strategies, the Tughlaq Dynasty brings with it two new elephant units: strengthen your economy with the Worker Elephant and engage in a new way to siege with the Ballista Elephant.
