Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds brings back courses that include land, air, and sea terrain as well as the never-before seen Travel Rings feature that affects the race in real time by transporting racers to all new CrossWorlds during the race.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds also offers the largest roster of iconic characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog and SEGA universes in any Sonic racing game, as well as a wide variety of customizable vehicles. Players can mix and match vehicle parts, powers, and abilities to create a customized racing experience suited to their gameplay style.

Speed to victory solo or as a team in a variety of offline and online modes and compete against players from around the world. Build the ultimate machine to match your racing style, unlock gadgets to gain the upper hand, and unleash power-up items for the win!

As promised yesterday, SEGA released a new action-packed trailer, giving players a deeper look into what competition feels and plays like in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, as well as another sneak peek into the latest addition to the ever-growing Season Pass roster, Pac-Man.

The trailer is filled with unpredictable rivalries amongst fan-favorite Sonic characters and highlights unrevealed game modes including Time Trials and Race Park.

• Variety of Game Modes
  • Grand Prix
    • Compete solo or with friends in local split screen co-op for first place in one of 7 cups (comprised of 4 races each). Racers are awarded points based on their placements at the end of races, and the racer with the most points at the end wins!
  • World Match
    • Test your skills and compete online against 11 other players. Earn Rank Points, increase your World Rank, and aim for the top!
  • Friend Match
    • Play with up to 11 other players online in custom lobbies where you can control all aspects of a race such as Speed, Team Size, Course/CrossWorlds, AI Difficulty, Frenzy Gates, Items, and Rule Sets.
  • Race Park 
    • Change up the rules and teams online and offline in this party mode that features six unique race formats.
  • Time Trial
    • Compete for the best time on individual courses and aim for the top of the Leaderboard Rankings.
  • Custom Match 
    • Play with up to 4 players offline split-screen where you can control all aspects of a race such as Speed, Team Size, Courses/CrossWorlds, AI Difficulty, Frenzy Gates, Items, and Rule Sets. 
• Rival System 
  • Wth the new Rival System, players are randomly assigned a rival racer for the duration of the four Grand Prix races. The rival will playfully taunt the main racer with unique dialogue interactions and pose an ongoing challenge, allowing for fun competition within the main races.
• Four Player Local Co-Op
  • Compete against friends for first place with local co-op! Hop on the same device and see who has what it takes with up to four players and split screen capabilities.
• Cross-Platform Matchmaking
  • Players can also look forward to racing online with up to 11 other friends! With cross-platform matchmaking, players on one platform can connect to and race against players racing on other platforms. 

An Open Network Test will be live starting Friday, August 29, 2025, until Monday, September 1, 2025. Players around the world can race as Sonic and friends for free on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The Open Network Test is not available for PS4 or Xbox One users.

• Extreme Gear is Back!: Having first appeared in Sonic Riders, the long-time fan favorite Extreme Gear flying hoverboards, are back for some extreme fun in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is coming Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam) on September 25, 2025 at $69.99 USD, followed by Nintendo Switch later in 2025.
