'Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection' Adds Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero And Mortal Kombat Special Forces To Its Lineup - Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 21, 2025 @ 12:09 p.m. PDT

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is the ultimate historical compilation of Mortal Kombat titles featuring multiple klassic games from the 90s and early 2000s, including arcade, console, and handheld versions.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection brings together a vast library of titles from the franchise’s early years, with original arcade games, the iconic Super NES and Sega Genesis home versions, and releases across Game Boy, Game Gear, Sega 32X, Game Boy Advance, and more platforms – all newly enhanced with player-friendly features. Online support with rollback netcode will be added to many of the arcade and console editions.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection also includes an interactive documentary chronicling the series’ groundbreaking history, featuring rare concept art, archival video footage, and exclusive new and vintage interviews with original creators Ed Boon, John Tobias, Dan Forden, and John Vogel, along with dozens more, to tell one of the gaming industry's most compelling origin stories.

In addition to documenting the making of the games, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will also chronicle the epic conflicts of the Elder Gods, Outworld, Edenia, and Earthrealm throughout the arcade era, with helpful guides to character backstories. Each title in the Kollection will also be enhanced with a variety of optional quality-of-life features, which will be detailed closer to launch.

Digital Eclipse and Atari revealed the final lineup and feature set for Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, launching later this year.

Headlining the announcement is the inclusion of Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and Mortal Kombat Special Forces - two rare PlayStation-era titles that have been unavailable for decades. These titles join the roster with the recently announced Mortal Kombat Trilogy, which has been optimized for modern platforms with drastically reduced load times for a faster, smoother experience.

Alongside the full game list, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will also feature new enhancements, including a Rewind feature for more forgiving gameplay, on-screen move lists and a Trainer mode to help players perfect their kombos. A Fatality Trainer has also been added, giving every kombatant a chance to master the franchise’s legendary finishing moves.

Today's reveal ended with one final surprise – a version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 that has not been playable anywhere since 1997. The WaveNet edition of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was originally developed to support Midway's WaveNet online matchmaking service for arcade machines. This unique edition was the only arcade release to feature Noob Saibot as a selectable character. Now emulated and preserved for the first time in history by Digital Eclipse, the WaveNet version debuts in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.
