Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line and Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation—the first three games in this long-running series—are connected both in their stories and the worlds in which they take place. They have come to be known collectively as “The Erdrick Trilogy”— Erdrick being the name passed down to each new incarnation of the legendary hero.

Playing the HD-2D versions of Dragon Quest I & II after Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will allow players to enjoy the connections between these three titles.

In addition to updated HD-2D graphics, both games feature new stories, new areas, and numerous other improvements and updates.

HD-2D is a graphical style developed by Square Enix Co., LTD.’s Team Asano that combines pixel art and 3D graphics. The advanced visual effects used alongside this combination of two-dimensional and three-dimensional styles creates a blend that is both new and nostalgic.

Dragon Quest I Story:

Thanks to the heroic efforts of the legendary Erdrick, the Lord of the Underworld was defeated and peace returned to the land of Alefgard. Yet this peace was not to last, as the diabolical Dragonlord has risen and unleashed hordes of monsters on the realm once more. Now, descendant of Erdrick, it is your destiny to defeat this new evil and rescue the world from its plight!

Dragon Quest II Story:

Many years have passed since Alefgard was saved at the hero's hand, earning him the same title as his storied forebear. The descendants of this Erdrick and his scions founded three kingdoms that thrived in peacetime. Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake has received various enhancements, and it has been revealed that you can now explore the ocean depths in DQ II! A wider world awaits, full of new encounters!

As you progress through the story of DQ II, you will be able to travel by ship not only on the ocean’s surface but also underwater! The merfolk live quietly under the ocean’s surface. In addition to Mersea, the town where they live, dangerous dungeons can also be found.

During their adventure, the main character and his comrades encounter two mermaids and learn that the ocean depths are under attack by Hargon's minions. Protect the mermaids from the evil forces lurking beneath the ocean’s surface and restore peace to the sea!

The protagonists encounter a pair of mermaids after a certain incident. Their encounter with the mermaids brings various developments to the story. It seems that the town where the mermaids live and the Mermaids' Sanctuary are also under threat from monsters. There are sunken ships and places that look like hideouts in the depths of the ocean. Explore every corner of the vast submerged world.

Mariella, one of Hargon's Champions, emerges as a formidable enemy threatening the peace of the seas! She stands before the protagonists, aiming to conquer the underwater world!

As the story progresses, you'll be able to dive even deeper to the Seabed! What could possibly be waiting there...?!
