'Absolum' To Get Animated Series Adaptation

by Rainier on Sept. 30, 2025 @ 6:18 p.m. PDT

Absolum is an innovative beat-'em-up that reimagines genre limitations while delivering brawling designed by the teams behind Streets of Rage 4's combat.

After revitalizing the beat ‘em up genre with acclaimed titles, beat ‘em up experts Dotemu and Guard Crush Games teamed up with the incredible animators and artists from Supamonks to master a rogue 'em up subgenre in Absolum. The vision for Absolum is twofold: thrilling arcade beat ‘em up action akin to Dotemu and Guard Crush Games’ previous collaboration is at the heart of Absolum, with intricate, refined combat offering a rewarding level of depth; equally important is Absolum’s innovation of brawler design conventions, resulting in maximized approachability and replayability. Unlock items, quests and permanent warrior upgrades while mixing character skill combinations, exploring Absolum’s depth of combat in runs steeped in variety, excitement and challenge.

With branching pathways to explore, quests to discover, intriguing characters to encounter, and a deep variety of challenging bosses in store, Absolum’s gripping fantasy tale unravels a challenging adventure and channels the spirit of classic brawlers like Golden Axe and Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. The entirety of Absolum’s journey is playable solo or in two-player local and online co-op.

Fight as one of four different rebels, each with their own unique skill set, personality and motivations, navigating through the original fantasy world of Talamh, a mysterious land filled with wonder and twisted cosmic horrors. Absolum’s announcement trailer introduced two of its distinctly formidable playable warriors: Galandra, an agile, sword-clad fighter suited for close-quarters combat; and Karl, a tanklike dwarf commanding devastating punches as well as a rifle to foil foes from a distance.

Absolum features an engaging narrative with themes of foiling an unbridled, dictatorial power and cheating Death itself. In the world of Talamh, a cataclysmic event caused by magic prompts the Sun King Azra to conquer all lands and sources of magic through brutal warfare, slaughtering any wizard unwilling to serve him. Talamh’s hope now lies with a defiant band of rebels aided by a mysterious, mythical mentor known as Uchawi and the similarly powerful Root Sisters, who together oppose Azra’s pursuit of total power by wielding an ancient, forbidden magic. These mythical forces empower our rebels with astonishing magic as they stoke a resistance, fight Azra's iron grip on Talamh, and discover the secret behind Azra’s ever-growing dominion.

Supamonks, a production studio specialising in animation, and publisher Dotemu announced that they will be teaming up to make an animated series adaptation of Absolum.

This new release will mark Absolum's first foray into the world of animation, offering fans of the game a whole new way to explore its captivating universe. Supamonks will oversee the production of this ambitious series, leveraging their renowned expertise in creating high-quality animated content.

The collaboration between Supamonks and Dotemu is part of an effort to build upon Absolum's lore and narrative, expanding its universe beyond the game. The adaptation represents a unique opportunity to reach a wider audience while staying true to the essence of the original game.

Julien Bagnol-Roy, CEO of Supamonks: "We are particularly excited about making this animated series because Supamonks has been involved in the Absolum project since its inception. Our teams have helped shape this universe right from the very start, and being able to now transform it into an animated series feels like a logical and exciting next step in our work. It is a unique opportunity to add a new dimension to a world we already know so well."

Cyrille Imbert, CEO of Dotemu: "As the first original production in our portfolio, Absolum has been given special attention at every stage of its development. Thanks to the game's lore, art, and narrative development, we are certain it will be transformed into an incredible TV series—one that we would love to watch ourselves! The quality of their work and their involvement in the game's artistic direction make Supamonks the ideal partner for this ambitious project."

Absolum introduces an engrossing universe and cast co-created with the masterful talent of animation studio Supamonks (Rabbids Invasion: Mission to Mars). Absolum blends arcade-like melee combat with spells, counters, upgradable abilities and uniquely powerful playable fighters, hosting a grand, high-stakes quest across an array of hand-crafted stages. Dotemu, Guard Crush and Supamonks have created an original, refreshing reimagining of the depth and fun that beat ‘em up gameplay can provide. Absolum is backed by an original soundtrack composed by Gareth Coker (Prince of Persia: The Lost CrownOri and the Will of the WispsHalo Infinite) with collaborations from Mick Gordon (Doom Eternal), Yuka Kitamura (Elden Ring), Motoi Sakuraba (Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes) and more.

Known for bringing dormant, classic IPs back to life in captivating modern remakes and adaptations that have sold millions of copies globally, Dotemu is co-developing and publishing its first original game in Absolum
