'Jump Space' Details PC And Xbox Early Access Development Roadmap

by Rainier on Sept. 9, 2025 @ 3:37 p.m. PDT

Jump Space is a space exploration co-op FPS game where players work together to operate their very own spaceship, scour the galaxy for riches and engage in dynamic, often frantic combat.

Jump Spaceis a co-op multiplayer game in which players will need to work together in order to survive as they operate and repair their ship, scour space debris for resources and battle enemy ships. Despite being a co-op first experience, solo play will also be encouraged and balanced accordingly. Transition seamlessly from crewing the ship to on-foot exploration and space walks. Engage in intense battles both on the ground and in space, and always keep your ship upgraded and intact.

Upgrade and customise your ship as you face off against the challenges of space exploration, and scavenge resources to ensure your survival. Reinforce your defences, adjust your energy output for speed or bolster your ship’s attack capabilities - the choice is yours.

Experience fluid gameplay as you switch from steering your ship out of an asteroid field to jetpacking towards an enemy vessel to sabotage its core. Seamlessly transition between exploration, combat and traversal.

Go on missions with your friends and take on roles, from piloting to engineering and field exploration. Work together to overcome enemy attacks, extinguish fires on the command deck or adjust your ship’s power grid on the fly. There are no set classes in Jump Ship, improvise and decide how you want to engage.

Hello again, space lovers!

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME JUMP SPACE??

Developer Keepsake Games and Coffee Stain announced that Jump Space will enter Early Access (PC/Steam and Xbox Series X|S) on September 19, 2025 at $19.99 / £16.75 / €19.50.

“Jump Space has been a true passion project for our team, and we feel incredibly proud to be bringing it to players,” said Daniel Kaplan, CEO of Keepsake Games. “We can’t wait to see crews explore what we have created when servers open. Early Access is just the beginning, there are huge plans for Jump Space and we’re excited to work with our community to shape the next chapter of this adventure.”

At Early Access launch, the game will feature:

  • Nine mission types; from surviving through hordes of robots, scavenging lost cargo, to raiding hostile enemy bases
  • 50+ playable sectors across four unlockable galaxy regions to explore
  • Two Player Ship Types with 26 Components to customise and upgrade your vessel

But this is just the start of the Jump Space universe, throughout Early Access Keepsake will be bringing regular content updates determined by community feedback, with current planned highlights for the next 6 months include.

We'll be expanding on all of the above during the Early Access.

  • Mission Types is what the final sector objective is, as a sort of "Finale" to the mission. If you played our demo in June, that had mission types: Salvage and Cargo Ship. So there are 9 new ones for you to play.

  • Sectors is what we're calling the playable areas within a mission. They're levels basically. We have 50+ of them so far, compared to the handful that were in the demo.

  • Galaxy Regions is each section of the big galaxy map. New content will unlock as you explore new regions of the galaxy, and we hope to add different themes and biomes to make each region more distinct.

  • You will start with the Catamaran ship, and work to restore that to full operations. As you complete missions, you may stumble upon a wreck of a 2nd ship. With a little work you'll get to pilot that one as well.

  • We have added plenty more ship components compared to the demo, and this is where you can really start building your ship in different ways and upgrade your favorite components.

More components will be added and reworked as we update mechanics like the Ship Shields and Scanner.

  • We've added one more weapon, the LMG, since the demo. Total player weapons are now 8.

  • Some new enemies have also appeared, and we look forward to introducing more enemy variety in the future.

The Current Content section of the roadmap image will be updated to give a brief, accurate overview of our progress as we release new updates that increases the numbers listed here.

Not every single new piece of content, bug fix or improvement to a mechanic or level will be featured on the roadmap. That would result in 100+ small boxes.

Just so that you're aware that there's more coming inbetween these bigger things worth visualizing.

Chapters

Our development journey will be divided up into "Chapters" that stretch over a longer period of time.

Chapters will consist of several updates until we've added everything listed in that chapter.

Only then do we move on to the next chapter.

We've already marked "Text Chat" and "Lobby Browser" in green as "completed" since they have been added to the game and will be available at launch.

Game development is tricky, and it's hard to accurately estimate when things are completed.

Doing Chapters instead of listing many mapped out updates gives us more flexibility, and we avoid disappointing players if a planned update gets delayed a few weeks for example.

Especially since the roadmap will constantly change based on feedback. Chapter 1 and 2 might look bigger a few months from now, depending on what you all think we should prioritize after playing the Early Access and what resources we have to cram more things in at a faster pace.

What the main focus of Chapter 3 is will definitely be up to what players think, so we're leaving that pretty open for now even if we have some long-term ideas.

When exactly Early Access ends and we release into 1.0 is still undecided - we shall see what the future holds.

But the updates will not stop.

Some items in Chapter 1 and 2 are pretty self-explanatory, or will be expanded upon as they get released in a specific update (Endless Mode for example) but we can briefly talk about some things:

Sector Modifiers is a system where we can add modifiers to whole missions depending on where they are in the galaxy regions, to make the world feel more alive and challenges more dynamic and interesting.

This could be "Increased Legion Activity" where all enemy squads are Elite-class, "Ion Storm" where weather events are more common or Materia costs are increased, or something that causes stronger Artifacts to appear. Stuff like that.

We've got some fun ideas for the Modifiers system when we implement it fully.

The Scanner Revamp will happen as we aren't happy with how little functionality it offers at the moment. There's not a whole lot to do with it at the moment, and it's not as fun as being a Gunner. We have some ideas, like finding hidden caches of materials by scanning a vague anomaly somewhere on the map. Maybe spending time to scan/hack an enemy ship (with a mini-game) gives it one of several debuffs.

If you have any feedback on the roadmap itself or want something more minor to be listed, please let us know! (Chat with us in Discord pls). Again, our development plan can always change and your most popular requests may sneak themselves into chapters.

We sincerely hope you will support us through the launch, Early Access, and beyond!

Key Features:

  • Modular Exploration - Each adventure is divided into multiple jumps, giving players a chance to dip in and out of handcrafted adventures with randomised events and modifiers. Whether it’s a solar flare, an asteroid shower or a pirate raid, no two runs will be the same.
  • Seamless Adventuring - Operating a space vessel requires crewmembers to be scrappy and flexible, which is why Jump Ship makes the experience seamless. Players can exit their ship to repair the outer deck, explore the surface of an asteroid or jetpack towards an enemy vessel seamlessly, without loading screens or transitions.
  • Build, Maintain and Pilot your Spaceship - Each adventure will yield materials and blueprints to upgrade the players’ jump ship for the next adventure. Crewmates work towards a common goal of making it out alive with as much loot as possible.
  • Fly with a crew, or go solo - Jump Ship is best enjoyed with friends, but solo adventurers are welcome too.

Jump Space is in development for Xbox and PC (Steam).
