His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… And teach his son to do the same.
This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative—and fuses them anew.
Kratos is a father again. As mentor and protector to Atreus, a son determined to earn his respect, he is forced to deal with and control the rage that has long defined him while out in a very dangerous world with his son.
Following actor Ryan Hurst, known for Opie Winston in Sons of Anarchy, singing on to play Kratos, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Homeland's Mandy Patinkin As Odin, it is now up to Alastair Duncan, Jeff Gulka, and Danny Woodburn join the cast of Prime Video’s God of War.
Alastair Duncan has signed on to play Mimir in Prime Video’s God of War from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Alastair also played Mimir in the video games God of War and God of War Ragnarök.
Mimir is a cheery fellow from Celtic lands with an expansive intellect, a quick wit and a good head on his shoulders. Never at a loss for words, Mimir is the self-described “Smartest Man in the World”. He served as an advisor to Odin the All-Father, who ultimately banished Mimir to confinement in the trunk of a tree, forever cut off from the people he loves and anything that could nourish his mind. In the wake of his banishment, Mimir seeks atonement for the terrible deeds he committed in the All-Father's name.
In 1983 Alastair Duncan made his television debut, starring in the Scottish Television series Taggart. He left the show after the first five seasons and appeared in many classic British series, including the Hound of the Baskervilles with Jeremy Brett and Poirot with David Suchet. In 1992, he starred opposite Rutger Hauer in the darkly atmospheric British sci-fi cult classic Split Second, playing Det. Dick Durkin. Since moving to Los Angeles in 1994 he has starred in the movies The Fifth Day, Dead Man's Walk, Trick of the Eye, Sleeping With Strangers, Tower of Terror and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo as well as guest starring in many television series. In the early 2000s he segued into voice acting, playing Alfred in 5 seasons of the animated series The Batman and 8 subsequent Batman films and video games. Most recently he starred in the Lord of the Rings video games Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, as Celebrimbor, the creator of the rings of power and as Mimir, the smartest man alive in God of War and God of War: Ragnarok.
Jeff Gulka has signed on to play Sindri in Prime Video’s God of War from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
Sindri is a renowned dwarven blacksmith whose incredible weaponry is sought after across the realms. Neurotic, helpful, and extremely germaphobic, Sindri is the complete opposite of his cranky, foul-mouthed brother and business partner, Brok.
Jeff Gulka is an actor known for his roles as "Gibson Praise" in The X-Files and "Charlie" in Stargate SG-1 based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Growing up working on these Sci-fi classics has imbued Jeff with a passion and respect for Science Fiction and Fantasy stories. In his spare time Jeff is an avid gamer and loves a good indie.
Danny Woodburn has signed on to play Brok in Prime Video’s God of War from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
Danny’s most recent credits include being a series regular on the final two seasons of “The Witcher” on Netflix and a recurring role on “Bookie” for HBO Max.
Brok is a legendary dwarven blacksmith who was alienated from his community when he helped build a super-weapon. He is brash, irreverent, and gruff - the complete opposite of his uptight brother and fellow blacksmith, Sindri, with whom he has a contentious relationship. Gamers will know Brok as the beloved weapons dealer with an unrivaled artistry for creative, foul-mouthed curses.
Emmy Award-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye (Shōgun, The Boys, Fallout) has signed on to direct the first two episodes of God of War.
God of War is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Ronald D. Moore serves as showrunner, executive producer, and writer.
Additional executive producers include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis serve as co-executive producers on the series.
From the marble and columns of ornate Olympus to the gritty forests, mountains, and caves of Pre-Viking Norse lore, this is a distinctly new realm with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters, and gods. With an added emphasis on discovery and exploration, the world will draw players in to explore every inch of God of War’s breathtakingly threatening landscape—by far the largest in the franchise.
With an over the shoulder free camera that brings the player closer to the action than ever before, fights in God of War mirror the pantheon of Norse creatures Kratos will face: grand, gritty, and grueling. A new main weapon and new abilities retain the defining spirit of God of War while presenting a vision of violent conflict that forges new ground in the genre.
