'Pokémon FireRed Version' And 'Pokémon LeafGreen Version' Coming To Nintendo Switch/2 Next Week - Trailer

by Rainier on Feb. 20, 2026 @ 10:28 a.m. PST

New and returning players can celebrate 30 years of Pokémon by exploring the Kanto region and reuniting with some of their favorite Pokémon and characters in their original settings.

Capture wild Pokémon and recapture the nostalgic feel of the Game Boy Advance when the Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version return for the first time in over 20 years on the Nintendo Switch/Switch 2, just in time for Pokémon Day.

Pokémon Day is an annual holiday that commemorates the release of the original Pokémon video games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, in Japan. This year’s Pokémon Day marks 30 years of Pokémon. Since the launch of the original video games in 1996, Pokémon has continued to be one of the most successful and influential entertainment franchises in the world, supported by a passionate and dedicated community.

Ahead of this year’s Pokémon Day on Feb. 27, 2026, The Pokémon Company group announced that a new Pokémon Presents will air at 6:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. GMT / 3:00 p.m. CET on that day.

To celebrate the holiday, The Pokémon Company group is inviting Trainers around the world to tune in to a Pokémon Presents video presentation on Pokémon Day for exciting updates and announcements across the Pokémon franchise.

Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version Arriving on Pokémon Day

In addition to the Pokémon Presents, The Pokémon Company group announced that Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version, the 2004 remakes of the Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green video games originally released in 1996, are coming to the Nintendo Switch system on Feb. 27, 2026.

Originally launched on the Game Boy Advance system in 2004, Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will be coming to the Nintendo Switch system as download-exclusive titles to celebrate 30 years of Pokémon.

New and returning players can celebrate 30 years of Pokémon by exploring the Kanto region and reuniting with some of their favorite Pokémon and characters in their original settings. Longtime fans will enjoy taking a trip back to where it all began, while newcomers can experience firsthand some of the earliest appearances of iconic characters and settings.

In these Nintendo Switch versions of the 2004 remakes of the first Pokémon games Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green (originally released in Japan in 1996), players can encounter the games’ original 151 Pokémon. Enjoy the classic soundtrack and turn-based gameplay, and meet-up familiar faces like Brock, Misty, Professor Oak and Giovanni! These classic Game Boy Advance RPGs feature all of the updates introduced during the Game Boy Advance era, including abilities, natures, weather conditions, held items and the ability to select your player character’s gender. Nintendo Switch players can also now link up with friends via local co-op without the need to use a Game Link Cable like you did in 2004!

Get ready to experience the challenges and rewards of Kanto for the first time … or the first time in a long time!

These titles will be available (My Nintendo Store/Nintendo eShop) to play after the conclusion of the Pokémon Presents presentation on Feb. 27. and can be played on both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems.

The games will also be available at select retailers launch week for a suggested retail price of $19.99 (USD).
