TiMi Montréal Shut Down Before Ever Releasing A Single Game

by Rainier on Feb. 23, 2026 @ 1:46 p.m. PST

Tencent has reportedly shut down TiMi Montréal without ever releasing or showing off its "AAA open world, service-focused video game for players to explore across multiple platforms"

According to Game File, TiMi Montréal's closure had been swirling for weeks which has also been confirmed by senior gameplay programmer Alvaro Fernandez Luzuriaga, but that statement was removed shortly thereafter.

TiMi Montréal, lead by Assassin's Creed creative director Ashraf Ismail (who had stepped down from Ubisoft in 2020 due to a year-long affair while lying about being married), was opened in 2021 as part of Tencent's TiMi Studio Group, which was also responsible for laying off most of Highguard's Wildlight Entertainment devs.

TiMi Studio Group has two other studios in North America, one in Los Angeles and another in Seattle.
