In Fortnite, players and their friends lead a group of Heroes to reclaim and rebuild a homeland that has been left empty by a mysterious darkness only known as “the Storm.”
Players will band together online to explore the world for resources, build extravagant forts, find or build insane weapons and traps as they protect their towns from the strange monsters that emerge during the Storm.
Fortnite Battle Royale is the FREE 100-player PvP mode in Fortnite. One giant map. A battle bus.
The last one standing wins.
Before Battle Royale, Fortnite began as Save the World in 2017: a PvE, action-building co-op campaign where no two games of building forts, crafting weapons, and holding back monster hordes were ever the same. Now, the mode that started it all is going free-to-play on April 16!
With pre-registration live, Save the World welcomes even more players to join the fight on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud, and Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-registrants will earn in-game rewards – including a Save the World Hero – at launch, and current players will receive Superchargers, Vouchers, and Gold on April 16 as a thank you for the last nine years of world saving. Founders will continue earning V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, Storm Shield Defense Missions, and existing Challenges.
Save the World Goes Free-to-Play April 16, 2026
Save the World will be free to play next month. Whether you’ve been playing Save the World from the beginning or have never played, team up to earn in-game rewards by pre-registering for the free-to-play launch:
Snowstrike Hero, the final pre-registration reward, has these Perks:
Standard Perk: North Star
Throwing Stars will slow enemies for 4 seconds instead of dealing damage. Slowed-down enemies will explode for 167 base water damage if they receive melee damage or damage from another North Star explosion.
Commander Perk: North Star+
Throwing Stars will freeze enemies for 4 seconds instead of dealing damage. Frozen enemies will explode for 167 base water damage if they receive melee damage or damage from another North Star explosion.
Current players can still play in the meantime, and as a thank you for the last nine years of holding back the horde, will receive the following on April 16:
1x Hero Supercharger – Promote a Hero beyond Level 50.
1x Weapon Supercharger – Promote a weapon beyond Level 50.
1x Trap Supercharger – Promote a Trap beyond Level 50.
5x Survivor Supercharger – Promote Survivors beyond Level 50.
1x Hero Recruitment Voucher – Recruit a Hero of your choice.
1x Weapon Research Voucher – Unlock a weapon of your choice.
10000 Gold – Spend in the Event Store (to be renamed “the Exchange”) for valuable items.
Founders will continue earning V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, Storm Shield Defense Missions, and existing Challenges.
