About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

20. 'Crackdown' (XOne)

Crackdown 3 is a sandbox of mayhem and destruction featuring an open-world campaign that you're able to play cooperatively online.

Redmond Carolipio: I still have memories of my superpowered agent bouncing around the city. I also remember playing corpseball" with a fellow player to pass the time (corpseball = chucking a body at someone, and that person tries to "hit" it with a car or something. It's like baseball, but with a body). Crackdown has a chance to be the title with the most "awesome fun" in it, especially since the gameplay trailer hints at some absolutely ridiculous co-op chances. If you can actually land a building on someone, then god speed.

Dustin Chadwell: First things first: Crackdown 2 was a disappointment. That's a popular opinion, and with good reason. There was so much promise in the open-world playground of Crackdown that the inability to capitalize on that promise for the sequel could only be disappointing. While we don't know much about Crackdown at this point, it's been so long since the second game that I find it hard to believe that Microsoft would make the same mistakes again. Early glimpses of the game seem to prove that, enough so that I'm definitely excited to see the final product later this year.

Tony "OUberLord" Mitera: If nothing else, the original Crackdown showed me that I would totally use superpowers for dubious purposes. Running up skyscrapers is a neat trick, but I just wanted to use excessive force against basically harmless mooks and improvise an armored vehicle by putting a flipped dumpster on a small car. I'm hopeful that the world of the new Crackdown will allow for that same level of player flexibility, and I'm even more hopeful that I'll be able to coerce a friend to tag along in co-op.

Rainier Van Autrijve: It has been five years since the last Crackdown title, and fans have been clamoring for the next outing ever since. The second title was done by a different developer and wasn't as good as the original, but now that the dust has settled, Crackdown is back, though details remain very limited. We know Realtime Worlds' Dave Jones, who's also the original creator of Grand Theft Auto, is back on board in a certain capacity, but it's not known who exactly is developing the game. It's the third title in the series but is more a follow-up to the first title, skipping the somewhat disappointing Crackdown 2. We expect more details at E3 2015, but if the developers are set on re-creating the fun of the original Crackdown, we should all look forward to this new installment.
