About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

8. 'Star Wars: Battlefront' (PS4/XOne/PC)

by Judy on Jan. 31, 2015 @ 12:30 a.m. PST

Star Wars Battlefront will deliver an incredibly authentic and immersive interactive entertainment experience featuring photo-realistic visuals and epic action in iconic Star Wars locations.

Mark Buckingham: This is one of the most beloved Star Wars franchises of the last 10 years or so (I won't dare compare it with Jedi Knight or X-Wing/TIE Fighter). If DICE can throw a flashy BF4-caliber coat of paint on it while preserving options for both first- and third-person views, offline botmatch, and online play without too many hiccups or a horrific launch like BF4 had, it could have a resurrected classic on its hands. Let's go easy on the DLC though, k? Let's have a complete game on release day with battles from the Clone Wars and the original Trilogy and not nickel-and-dime players over maps, fragmenting the player base.

Rhi "StormyDawn" Mitera: As is often the case with me, you can put Star Wars on the cover of just about anything, and I'll be excited about it. A Battlefront reboot on the Frostbite 3 engine and with snowspeeders? I started trying to hand them my money before I'd even finished that sentence. I'm a little worried about the state it'll be in at launch, since DICE seems to have trouble with that, but I'm sure it'll be a great game a month or two later.

Tony "OUberLord" Mitera: On the one hand, oh my god you guys, we're getting a new Star Wars: Battlefront, and it's being made by the same people who are most associated with the Battlefield series. On the other hand, that series has been a train wreck in recent years, with each release marred with severe problems. I have every bit of faith that at some point in its lifetime, I'll be happily singing the game's praises as I murderously pilot an AT-ST around on Endor. I'm just hoping that it won't take a messy launch and six months of waiting on patches to get there.

Rainier Van Autrijve: Even though Star Wars: Battlefront is the third title in the franchise, this is yet another EA title that's being rebooted, kind of like Mirror's Edge 2 being called Mirror's Edge because EA felt the need to reboot the franchise after one installment. Go figure. Original developer Pandemic Studios is no more, so at the helm for this reboot is DICE, who's known for the Battlefield series and the Frostbite 3 engine. Little is known about Star Wars: Battlefront at this point, but sincei t's scheduled for release in late 2015, we can expect the PR machine to rev up any day now. More details will surely be revealed at E3 2015, but who can resist the temptation of fighting through blaster-wielding troops, piloting their favorite Star Wars combat vehicles, and visiting iconic planets like Hoth and Endor? If DICE can keep the multiplayer servers stable, then Star Wars: Battlefront will be a blast — see what I did there? — to play for many years to come.
