About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

6. 'Rise of the Tomb Raider' (XOne/X360)

In Lara Croft's next chapter of her journey, she must use her survival skills and wits, learn to trust new friends, and ultimately accept her destiny as the Tomb Raider.

Mark Buckingham: Lara was getting pretty long in the tooth by the end of the PS1 generation. The PS2 was a relatively quiet generation for her until Crystal Dynamics tried its hand at the formula, bringing some new ideas and a much-needed visual overhaul to the series. More recently, she came storming back with third-person isometric shooters and a reimagining of the franchise with a game that had more in common with Far Cry than Indiana Jones. It'll be interesting to see how the developer can innovate with Rise to maintain and build on the momentum gained of late.

Redmond Carolipio: Lara Croft's reboot in 2013 still remains one of my favorite games. I saw it as the equivalent of "Batman Begins" for the franchise. I even downloaded and played the Definitive Edition. I want to see how Crystal Dynamics takes the new Lara even further as far as a storied character and central gameplay figure, especially since she is one of the few true female lead characters around. What will she be able to do as she evolves into more of a hardened adventurer? What stories await? I'm also looking forward to how damn good this game is going to look.

Rhi "StormyDawn" Mitera: Lara Croft's 2013 reboot is one of the best things to happen in recent years. She's a beautiful, interesting, strong, three-dimensional female character in a medium that desperately needs more of those. What's more, Tomb Raider was a well-written and fun game. Here's hoping that Rise of the Tomb Raider continues to be so for many more games to come.

Thomas Wilde: And speaking of unsettlingly large amounts of murders, I'm curious where they're going to go with the rebooted Lara Croft. It was a lot of fun seeing her steep, fast climb from a scared college student to one-woman army in the 2013 Tomb Raider, and now I'm curious as to where they'll go from there. Hopefully, you can use the exploration systems from the last game and actually raid some tombs this time out, rather than systematically depopulating an entire Japanese island.
