12. 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2' (Switch)

by Judy on Jan. 27, 2020 @ 12:00 a.m. PST

In addition to the vast lands of Hyrule, The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom will take you up into the skies and an expanded world that goes beyond that!

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: We only know the scantest few details about Breath of the Wild 2, but that may be all we need to know. The Hero of the Wilds and the Princess Zelda, fresh off their defeat of Calamity Ganon, discover that something else is lurking in the deepest depths of Hyrule Castle, and it threatens their hard-won peace all over again. We may not know much, but based on what we've seen, we can expect more of the climbing, fighting, and shield-surfing gameplay that made Breath of the Wild so exciting.

Joseph Doyle: Who doesn't want more of this game? Breath of the Wild has challenging, compelling fighting, fun puzzles, and phenomenal world-building and exploration. It embraces aspects of its own prior releases while embracing newer, more fascinating mechanics that emulate the likes of Minecraft, Shadow of the Colossus and others. This is the Nintendo team; we've seen more and more interesting releases from them in the past couple of years, and I don't believe this sequel is when they'll hang up their hats. We got Majora's Mask in response to Ocarina of Time. I don't think they'd deliver if they couldn't slam dunk.

Rhi "StormyDawn" Mitera: Very, very little is known about Breath of the Wild 2 except that it is happening and in very early stages of development, but that's all I need to be excited about it. Breath of the Wild was my favorite Zelda game since Ocarina of Time, and what little we know about Breath of the Wild 2 puts Zelda herself more in the spotlight and possibly even a playable character for a change. I look forward to getting lost in the wilderness and completely ignoring the main plot for hours and hours.

David Silbert: When Nintendo announced that a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was in development, it set the internet ablaze with speculation. Where and when does the new game take place? Will Zelda be playable? And, most importantly, how long must we wait to play it?

The sequel's admittedly a bit of a long shot for a 2020. We've seen tighter timelines before, as Majora's Mask was famously made in a single year, so one can hope!
