Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: From vague Grand Theft Auto knock-off to superhero adventure, the Saints Row franchise is difficult to pin down. The Saints Row reboot, which is a remake of the original game, knows exactly what it wants to be. Embracing the weird and wild tone of the earlier GTA games, it takes you back to where the Saints began: a less serious crime drama that captures more of the goofiness of the early genre without reaching the level of craziness of "fighting a space emperor in a VR simulation." In a genre that has been surprisingly underserved for a while, Saints Row looks to be a welcome breath of fresh air.
Rhi "StormyDawn" Mitera: This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I'm so glad that the new Saints Row is a reboot instead of a continuation of the original series. As much as I love the old Saints gang, where else can you go after you've been Emperor of the universe? Volition promises new characters to fall in love with but still all the same delightful chaos, so it's a win-win in my book. The only downside is that they didn't get to name the fifth franchise installment Saint5 Row.
Tony "OUberLord" Mitera: You should have heard the cheers in this household when the Saints Row reboot was announced. The return of the Saints Row franchise, this time in a hard reboot, is a welcome one given its mix of over-the-top ... everything, really. It was violent, hilarious, and fun to play, and everything I've seen so far indicates that the upcoming title is no exception. With a whole new roster in a whole new setting, it'll be nice to see what Saints Row brings to the latest console generation.
Adam Pavlacka: Saints Row was at its best when it was a lighter take on the "serious" GTA games but still grounded in reality. While Saints Row 3 and Saints Row 4 were fun, they never reached the heights of Saints Row 2, which is still the best in the series. The Saints Row reboot promises to return to the grounded style that made the second game so memorable.
