However, the gonzo fantasy world they've built just looks too ravishing. That's what happened with Sekiro and its impeccable design, and this piece feels like the culmination of everything we've seen in From Software since the beginning.

Jared Hall: Dark Souls fans, rejoice! From Software is returning to the fray with a brand-new IP, Elden Ring. It looks like all of the challenge and discovery of the Dark Souls series is intact with a new coat of open-world paint, so we can all suffer in thrilling agony at those two beautiful words: You died.

Andreas Salmen: While still not quite mainstream, From Software games have steadily increased in hype and spectacle leading up to their releases. It looks the studio has stepped up to meet those expectations with the largely familiar combat and RPG mechanics wrapped in a wide-open world with Elden Ring. From early footage, the world looks like something between Breath of the Wild and Middle-earth: Shadow of War, which are some of the better examples of its kind. It looks like a winning formula, and I hope they'll pull it off.
