15. 'Final Fantasy XVI' (PS5)

Final Fantasy XVI brings players into a world where Eikons are powerful and deadly creatures that reside within Dominants—a single man or woman who is blessed with the ability to call upon their dreaded power.

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: It's been a long time since the last mainline Final Fantasy game, but it's difficult for fans to not be excited about this particular entry. Some might be disappointed by the game's more single-character focus, but Final Fantasy XVI looks phenomenal, and its development is headed by YoshiP and his team, the ones responsible for the amazing turnaround for Final Fantasy XIV. There's a dark fantasy story with breathtaking graphics, giant kaiju battles, and an action combat system coming from one of the minds behind Devil May Cry V.

Cody Medellin: Every Final Fantasy game since X-2 has proven to be divisive. The move away from strict menus to something more action-oriented has split fans, and based on the early trailers emphasizing action sequences, this looks to be no different. Even the most jaded fan is wondering how the whole system works, from exploration to whether there's a pared-down menu system or even parties to control. We already know that the "M" rating for the game is the first for the series, and based on how Stranger of Paradise went, there's a bit of cautious excitement for this one.

Tim McDonald: I'm not going to lie: I know basically nothing about Final Fantasy XVI, and I don't want to know anything about it because I want to go in as spoiler-free as possible. My anticipation for FFXVI essentially comes from the fact that Final Fantasy XIV has consumed years of my life, been one of the most important things at all to me, and wowed (and wounded) me with its story. Basically: I have faith in Square Enix Creative Business Unit III to create something special. Add on that the combat director worked on the sublime Devil May Cry 5, and my excitement skyrockets into the stratosphere.

Claudio Meira: Final Fantasy is a franchise that's very dear to me. The mainline series has been on a steady decline since its 13th iteration. Regardless, FF XV was able to at least hold my attention until the credits rolled, despite its shortcomings. Final Fantasy XVI seems to feature a fully realized action-based combat and a much more mature story. I'm very curious to see if this new direction is the right one for Final Fantasy.
