Well almost... Sony Online has
announced that it will give new Planetside, SOE's MMOFPS, players the chance to play for free for a period of 12 months. Essentially, new players will be able to have access to any part of the game but will have limitations on the BattleRank, which affects the diversity of their arsenal. The UI will also get an overhaul to make it easier for newcommers and plenty of new items and weapon variants are getting added. Expected launch, February 14.

Many RPG fans were probably looking forward to the Heroes of Might & Magic 5 open beta which was set to launch today. Unfortunately, nothing happened. Without much of an explanation, Ubisoft announced "The open beta for Heroes V has been delayed, to make the experience as smooth as possible for all those involved. Keep an eye out for a new beta launch date, and all the news that goes with it."

back in December, CBS' 60 Minutes will air a feature segment covering Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel and the international explosion of professional video gaming. Viewers can expect to see World Cyber Games footage as well as interviews with WCG Hall of Fame inductees and two-time Counter-Strike gold medal winners Team 3D. One of Capcom's most popular PSOne RPG series is coming to the PSP. Breath of Fire III will not break any new boundaries as graphically it is nothing special, as are most RPG's anyhow, apart from the PSP's 16:9 display. On the other hand you will be able to play the minigames in multiplayer through the PSP's game sharing function.

2005 has not been a very good year for Majesco, after it earlier sold off Ghost Rider and The Darkness, its year-end results revealed all is not well. Across the board revenue, sales and income are all turning a loss, compared to profits last year. As a result Majesco announced it cut 20% of its workforce and is abandoning major publishing in favor of value and handheld video games. In its subsequent conference call it was also revealed that high profile titles such as Terminal Reality's Demonik and Taxi Driver, based on Martin Scorsese's cult film, have been cancelled.
