SCEE announces new consumer show

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is planning to run its own product show later this year, showcasing the latest in its interactive entertainment hardware and software products to trade, press and consumers alike.
No details of date, location or the possibility of a specific trade aspect to the event have been forthcoming as yet, with Sony promising to release further information after E3. The new Sony event, like the previously announced Nintendo Show, will replace its ECTS presence rather then supplementing it.
According to David Wilson, head of PR at SCEE, "This decision is not a budgetary one. We felt that this approach would be better one; E3 is our major trade showing anyway, and a consumer show offers better value for retail and media as well."
Ray McGuire, SCE UK managing director, concurs with this view, saying that "We actually have more money to spend this year, but the most important thing at this stage is to reach consumers, the people actually buying and playing the games."
